All of the several clear mistakes ended up with a live round in the chamber pointed at a fired at and killing a person. In this case I think the responsible person is just one.

I cannot believe that they actually use real guns supposedly filled with blanks - but it is America - land of the free.
I would have thought that "prop" guns not be real and not actually able to fire real rounds - blanks are dangerous enough in close quarters let alone real bullets.
It amazes me too, there must be authentic, non-opperable replicas available and I'd have thought more easily obtainable (at least in this country). There was a stuntman killed in a remarkably similar manner, a few years ago, in Brisbane CBD.Quote:

As for the discussion at hand, there’s still insufficient info at hand.
It could have been a blank, it could have been a ricochet- may not have been aimed at all.
It could have been deliberately loaded with a live round by malicious intent.
Regardless - a horrible state of affairs and I feel for everyone.
As for all the hubbub because it was a firearm - let’s keep it in perspective - if it wasn’t deliberate, then how is it any different to someone killing a person with their car? People kill others by ‘accident’ in MVs all the time, and not locked up. We don’t seem to be so “up in arms” about that….
I trust those at the Range I go to far more than I trust the motorists I shared the roads with to get there and back!

No idea with Pistols I only ever fired blanks with the SLR which had the Blank Firing Attachment fitted & that was only to have the self cocking action & on the Range I can't recall standing in front of a barrel to see what **** actually came out. Well you wouldn't would you?

A situation can arise where a prop round (a complete cartridge and projectile with no powder or primer) is used in the filming. This round is used for realism as it’s filmed being loaded into the firearm.

Here’s where the risk lay… if the projectile or any other item, remains in the barrel and it isn’t cleared - (at the range we visually inspect through the barrel after removing the bolt) - and a blank loaded - there is enough energy in the blank to propel the obstruction out of the muzzle.
Brandon Lee was a victim of this type of incident.

After only 6mths as a grunt I never fired the blanks at all....I would cut them open , empty the powder from them and put them into a "sandbag" as rubbish for collection.
We would be given so many plastic rounds at the start of an exercise it was embarrasing to know what to do with them.....I know that many thousands of blanks are buried in most exercise areas.
I was in Regimental Police for a while and post exercise the units would dump all left over ammunition at the guardroom for yours truly a or another RP to sort and distribute somewhere.
