I can sort of comprehend having a tele in an Oncology, Chemo/Immunotherapy waiting room, as it may just assist in getting one, or several occupants' minds off their day to day issues for a short time, no matter what the drivel on air.

Last year and earlier this year, once every three weeks, for twelve months, I would sit with an old workmate (who has since succumbed to his illness) and his dear wife in the RBWH Onc. waiting room. One of the shows being aired at one time, was reruns of "MAFS"! A show that I couldn't stomach, normally.

However, my friends loved it and they laughed and joked about it and actually got quite a few other waitees to start interacting. This turned a somewhat Puritan atmosphere into a lively discussion group with a lot of smiles all round, even from staff members. [bigsmile]

My mate and I were even gently 'Chastised' once, by a lady on the reception desk, as she couldn't hear too well on here telephone because of the laughter in the room.

She thought it was great. [biggrin]

Anything to help divert dark thoughts, I say!

I disagree, but only on a personal level. I too have to deal with the dark thoughts. My late sister, and also late wife, spent ages in places like this ( with me for their dubious company ), and now it seems to be my turn. Thing is, I hate television at the best of times. I was in a cancer clinic yesterday and not a soul in there was looking at the thing droning its banalities on the wall. I would rather read a book. Everyone else there was either engrossed in their phones or alone with their feelings. If it was for kids, maybe, but the set was not tuned to anything a kid would watch.

Perhaps they could have seperate rooms.

What a great idea!

During my involvement with Oncology, mentioned previously, I witnessed several sad events. One young bloke, who would have been mid-twenties, went downhill quickly and met his fate in three months.

Others were in their thirties and I could notice the decline in their health, over time. A few I never saw again, from one visit to the next.
(RBWH generally have the same people at the same appointment times)

I feel a lot more for these younger folk than I would for someone in their dotage, that's for sure and would do my best to interact with them in a cheerful way.

My mate was seventy-one when he went and had the same opinion as myself.

Also on a personal level, I would be careful to avoid any grumpy, old bastard in the room. [bighmmm]

You need a 'tv be gone'; a small universal off remote, that cycles a sequence of all codes to turn any tv off

If you are in a big pub , with lots of keno screens, be aware that the IR lens will be seen on security screens, so a toilet roll or similar will help you snipe undetected.
It also works from outside through windows.

Hello All,

It has happened yet again. I have followed the suggestion to email the 'main contact person' for a job that I am interested in applying for. Once I drafted and sent the email I get an 'Automatic Notification' that the main contact person is on leave. As things normally go, they do not return until after the applications have closed.

I know that I am at fault for applying logic to most things in life. However, one would think that when a job is advertised nationally and a 'main contact' person is identified, that they perhaps should be at work while the vacancy is opened!

Perhaps I should take it for an indicator of the organisation in general - if they cannot get such a simple thing right it may an accurate reflection of things to come.

Coming back from The Little Smoke this arvo, wet, heavily ovecast conditions on an undulating, winding secondary road I had the cruise control set for 95~100 kph. An overloaded mecanic/fitter's Hi-Lux followed me for 10ish kilometres ranging from too close to 100 metres. He finally overtook me, at significantly over the speed limit, a kilometres before the local pub. He hadn't even had time to open his door by the time I passed him, stopped at the aforementioned hotel. [bighmmm]

Perhaps he thought that you were going to stop at the rubbity as well and wanted to get a Bundy into him, whilst they still had some?
