Grandkids left for home this morning. About half an hour later, got a phone call "we've blown a tyre, and don't seem to have a jack, can you help?" They had not reached the first village where you turn onto the highway.
So, chucked the metric socket set in the County, and headed off. Decided to leave the pup at home (see below).
About 15km or so from came across a kid (well, 18yo) walking towards me. Said he had been walking for about ten minutes. Found them stopped about a kilometre further on. The LH back tyre was shredded. Fortunately, they were on a fairly level patch, albeit pretty dusty.
No jack to be found, but I used the bottle jack I have and pretty soon got the job done - the brace with the socket set sped things up. I found out from their father in Yass that No.2 (not on this trip), tasked with cleaning out the car, removed the jack. And doesn't know where it is!
Got back home after about nearly two hours, and found the kitchen tidy on its side, lid off, and the contents all over the kitchen floor. Grrrr!
In my hurry to leave, I did not put it up on the bench.

After tyre issues above, I took the County in to town today, with a 0900 appointment. Pulled the car into his workshop out of the rain. He started to walk round it and remarked "that tyre is flat". Well, it wasn't exactly - 15psi by my gauge. It was good when I left home. So we changed the wheel using his floor jack and rattle gun.
This is the third tyre in three different parts of the family over the last three weeks. Turns out, another tube gone porous.
