I am planning to visit my brother (in Houston) in November, so I spent a good part of the morning looking at travel insurance.

So far, I have a quote from the travel agent* for about 30% more than the cost of travel or twice the cost of the travel, with more bells and whistles, one from the bank's insurance department* for half the travel costs, and one from the bank's card department, that gives free insurance if I pay for travel with the card, provided I am under 80 - since I am over 80, it will cost almost twice the travel costs, and I still have to pay with the card.

*Both these quotes are from the same insurance company!

I am, to put it mildly, more than somewhat grumpy, especially after having to stand at the bank for an hour and a half.

Bugger! And there was me having the occasional/odd 'appy day.

John, the buggers have us all by the short & curlies with insurance & just when you think you are on top of it all you then find another hidden clause that lets them off the hook if you make a claim. Once upon a time the insurance cover was writ upon a single sheet. Today insurance cover can run to 50 odd pages all nicely printed in colour etc.

Have recently rcd mine WOW! Not Happy Jan .

    Cynical.? Moi?

This was on a email about a PRIVATE MEDICAL ISSUE sent to me yesterday. They CC'd it to a lawyer who has not been part of the issue for 3 years and also to a generic email address trying to get a copy to a Doctor.

The nice lawyer called to ask why and what. She was as frustrated as I was with the privacy breach

The Generic email address copy was seen by several of my staff who were all concerned by the privacy breach

A call got several apologies and several excuses.

The excuses got a complaint sent about poor procedures and my 'privacy'. Not too many people want to see that anyway of course

Is this ok for the International Grumpy Old Men's Day I am grumpy about missing ?

It always amused me that the privacy blah, blah, is a footer, to be read after the secret bitz.

I had a bit of a 'Cultural Experience' today. Something I could best describe as a 'Welcome to Cabin' ceremony.

The Light of My Life and myself jumped in the Tojo 'tilly and headed off to town. Being a tad chilly, I moved the slide button on the dash air controls to Red. That didn't seem to do much, so I decided to turn the air vent fan on.

Now, bearing in mind that neither heater, nor fan had been used for probably five to six years, the commencement of fan inducted air was accompanied by copious amounts of grey smoke and the aroma of burning Eucalypt leaves. This prompted the LOML to utter an expletive into her phone, whilst talking to my sister.
I quickly turned the fan off, ordered all windows wound up (to reduce air flow) and hoped for the best. Lo and behold, the smoke and aroma stopped.

I pretty sure that meeces have been nesting in behind the dash and it will require a dismantle and good cleanout. I'm getting too old to be crawling around in the front footwells of a vehicle.

I'm also pretty sure I was bloody lucky that we didn't add to ICE vehicle, spontaneous combustion data.
