Sounds very similar, this one is a "Savage" brand. No storage space in the stock, but the two position hammer, etc is very similar.
Single shot, great light gun for kids to learn with, and SWMBO has used it many times as well.
It also has the original canvas carry bag.
Our guess is it is well over 60 yrs old,we inherited it from my Father.
I fitted a 4X40 scope to it many years ago, great rabbit gun,the 410 has knocked lots of wild domestic pigeons out of the air as well.
They used to get in the roof and cielings of the sheds, shearing quarters, and residenses on the property.
Great fun for the kids when they were young teenagers.
7.62 flash backs

I dont understand that. I use google all the time to find Land Rover bits or Firearm bits. Never had a problem finding powder or primers or competitions, gunshops etc Never asked my age or if part of the general population.
Does not bother me as its Daves forum he can do what he wishes. I will go back to loading some .50 cal ammo for next weekend

Didn't know about that one but they did make one in .22 magnum.
A mate had a 22 Mag,bolt action,i can't remember the brand, great on foxes particularly if one was after the skins.May have been an Anschutz, from my not great memory.
It did jam at times, and always at the worse time.

About 15 yrs ago,the inherited half worn out old bolt action Remington .222 had a habit of not going off at times.
It was like a lottery, whether it would fire or not, very cold weather made it worse.
We stopped using it,eventually i took it to a gunsmith, and he fixed it,it has been perfect since.
It had something worn out in the trigger and firing mechanism.Parts were not available,so he made new parts to sort it.
Magazines are also unavailable, luckily we have a spare one.
Soft or hard loads 50 cal is a BOOT PLUS to the shoulder. I didn't feel it at all
Rifle Recoil Table
JT and my favorite old Navy- Sorry Miliary 7.62 was mild Chuck adds "In 1909, the British Textbook of Small Arms stated that 15 ft. lbs. of free recoil energy was the maximum allowable for a military service rifle. (The standard British .303 Lee-Enfield infantry rifle was below that figure, as are most service rifles to this day. This should tell you something.) The 1929 edition of the same textbook stated, in addition, that recoil velocity should not exceed 15 fps; above that velocity a gun-headache was very likely to occur. These figures remain practical maximums for the modern hunter.
Above this level recoil becomes increasingly intrusive. In addition, the effects of recoil are cumulative. The longer you shoot, and the harder the rifle kicks, the more likely you are to flinch. These are good things to remember when comparing rifle cartridges."
Yours may be 70 ft. lbs. of free recoil energy
