A bit of a tricky one imho although I applaud it..

Volunteers often say they volunteer because that is what they wish to do to give something back to the community but as Doe said" a slippery slope". Wait until the first Court case & W 'elf & safety, insurance, liabilities, responsibilities & whatever else raises its ugly head. It will have to be very professionally organised so that existing Professional firefighters can't be doing fire duties on days off for extra cash etc & it may not be as simple as it first looks.

Time will tell.

I notice in Bunnings yesterday that some gutter guard is fire rated and some isn't.
I would like to screen the outside of all our verandahs with fire resistant mesh, but it would be costly.
I saw a house on TV which had mesh screens on rollers which could be rolled across to cover outside areas, but rolled back when not needed.

Weather generated by the fire. Ten kilometre high cloud column with lightening, I think they said. Really scary.

Now two more dead and five missing.

I see a Seaborne evacuation is being planned to get the 4,000 off ah la Dunkirk stylee..

I guess the new Amphibious ships have to find a good use somewhere & if they can't be used for this they'd be a waste of Taxpayer's money.

It'll be excellent practice.

We’re closely monitoring one at Miltalie.
Within 5km of my site and flaring up again at the moment.

I’ve spent the day working with the rest of the Critical Response Team to implement asset protection for our facilities and confirmed evacuation plans for our forthcoming 45c & High wind day.

This was 15 min after the lightning strike yesterday. It was 34km away.

Yeah, the (private, illegal) fireworks will be going off everywhere around my 10 acres tonight but I got a bit of rain last night and the wind has dropped to jack.

Not really worried now, but it could easily have been 2 days ago and really bad potential outcomes.
