And speaking of Psychologists, the more I talk to people, family, neighbours et al. the more I realise that the general community could be needing the same as those participating.
Persons not directly impacted by this disastrous event seem down in the dumps & withdrawn when they discuss it & generally cannot fathom the magnitude of it all. If you are Australian born it appears even worse.




I do hope there is no psychological flow - on effect & it certainly is not over yet.

Vale – Dick Lang

Most people will be aware that Dick Lang and his son lost their lives in the Kangaroo Island bushfires. Dick along with his wife Helen were pioneers of the outback travel industry and especially outback air tourism. They were at the forefront of ecotourism and for a number of years ran safaris in both Australia and Africa. He will be missed by all in the bush. Condolences to all the Lang family.

Land and fuel managementPrescribed burning is one of the main tools for fire management on public land. It cannot prevent bushfire, but itdecreases fuel loads and so reduces the spread and intensity of bushfires. By reducing the spread and intensityof bushfires, it also helps protect flora and fauna. Ironically, maintaining pristine forests untouched by fuel reductioncan predispose those forests to greater destruction in the event of a bushfire.About 7.7 million hectares of public land in Victoria is managed by DSE. This area includes national parks, stateforests and reserves, of which a large portion is forested and prone to bushfire. DSE burns only 1.7 per cent(or 130,000 hectares) of this public land each year. This is well below the amount experts and previous inquirieshave suggested is needed to reduce bushfire and environmental risks in the long term.
