The whole “charity” business is a hoax. Don’t give unsolicited callers anything. They are businesses.
That includes the bushfire appeals. Even if your money gets through, what benefit does it do? The poor victims aren’t dying of thirst or starvation. Apparently they don’t even need insurance to have their houses rebuilt. You all might think I’m a complete bastard, and your probably right, but that’s the reality of the situation.

Since charities became picky on what they take - normally an ongoing direct debit from your credit card these days - I no longer give except where I know money will go direct to those in need.

I never give to the Red Cross because they divert money given for particular causes and projects to other areas (been caught out a few times) and the other is the Heart Foundation - their "tick" is meaningless as companies have to buy it.

In the outback I no longer give to the RFS - they are an organisation very much worthy of assistance but they have been Government funded since the 1930s and are well known, so everyone gives to them at the detriment to other worthy outback charities competing for the charity $ - so I try to give to outback charities who are struggling to get $$ to help their communities - nothing against the RFS but they woud still be there doing the job even without public charity.

You may be right, as it looks like if you want the intended recipients to get the money timeously, you have to drive it to them or send it direct, as from an article on the ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) yesterday.

"We have got to a point where the long-running downgrading of our institutional apparatus of government means that the most efficient way of getting money out to people in desperate circumstances is via non-government organisations like Vinnies and the Red Cross.
They are doing their best...……………., then the organisations wait weeks to have the contracts signed that allow them to hand out the money."

We give away 10% of our income, but we do it as a long-term commitment to causes we choose, not off the cuff because of phone calls.
My standard response is, 'Send me the paperwork and I'll consider it. ' They never do.

My wife used to give to charities that rang up. It drove me god damn nuts. I said NO .... DO NOT EVER RING HERE AGAIN countless times.... which progressed to me getting extremely ****ed off and abusive to every single charity/scammer that rang. The problem we had is my wife had previously "given" to a charity..... And those assholes sell off the information you supply. So if you give to them, they will happily sell your contact information any scammers/charities that will pay for it.

Don't start me on god damn raffle books either. Every charity that rang would either hang up when they heard me answer or ask for my wife by name. I soon cottoned on to the fact all of there systems must have big flashing warnings on the screen "Only talk to wife, husband is abusive". So I told the bunch of assholes to NEVER send raffle books. Then they would ring demanding we either return there raffle books or money. I sure let them know what I thought of that. I throw every mail item straight into the bin that isn't expected without opening. I TOLD YOU ASSHOLES NOT TO SEND ANY TICKETS

This all got easy about 5years ago. Without telling my wife I would unplug the house phone for weeks on end without her realising. Anyone that we would with to talk too would know our phone number either way. Our house phone these days goes pretty much un-used and unanswered always.

Actually a few years back boss women was being rang constantly of all things the ANZ bank to her personal mobile phone. She was constantly screening there calls as they were being very aggressive at trying to sell her life insurance. Obviously using our contact details as we have a bank account there................. Well eventually her phone rang when she wasn't there ..... and I realised it was them. Needless to say, they NEVER hassled her again. The poor call center worker probably quit that day. There is absolutely no god damn excuse for a banks life insurance branch to be hassling my wife like that.

Anyone that comes to our door get bluntly told to **** off ( I dont' care if they are charities/powercore/religious nutters etc). People that turn up on my doorstep get the same treatment as un-requested and unwanted phone calls.

Pressure selling something only ****es me off. It will NEVER result in a sale.

Are you mixing RFS and RFDS?

Donate your time not your cash. Cash donations are just a feel good!!![/QUOTE]

    Spot on
Most charities money is used to pay people to collect more money
Why not donate a few hours of your time and save them a few bucks
Sure they have to pay insurances for your activities, but you’d think (🤣🤣🤣🤣&#129315 insurance companies would donate insurance to worthwhile charities
We budget yearly and donate to certain charities
When we get door knockers I let them know to leave as much info as possible for us to research where there money goes and I’ll try to budget them into next years charity fund
