The Cone of Silence was a yacht that I used to race on. The owner called it that because he loved Get Smart....the sail number was 8699 too. Ironically we weren't a particularly silent crew...

My great uncle willed me his old landy. We had great fun fishing and four wheel driving. So i've decided to restore the old girl as a tribute to him.

Well around '96 or so just after this new fangled thingy called the internet started to be truly freely available and usable fot the ordinary people.

I was at TAFE doing a course in Outdoor Guiding, Tourism & Tour Directing & Guiding (yes I went a long way with those). There was talk at the time of the Blue Mountains NP being turned into a world Heritage Listed Area but also certain green groups being keen on shutting it down to all access.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for the environment. think it's a wonderful thing and should be saved but within reason. So when the inevitable discussion about it came up about what should be done I of course said "club 'em".

From there I got my first internet connection and email address under the same name and have been using it ever since. My first connection was with Packers/Murdochs failed OneNet. For which in over two years until they went bust I never once received a bill. So yes, I'm responsible for the downfall of tycoons, as well as being on the receiving end of much ire from various green groups who take it upon themselves to find my username on various forums and message me about how irresponsible I am. I reply with the aforementioned club.

Mine is a long story. It all started in Jan 05. I had only owned the Disco for about 4 weeks, and I was towing a 16 foot caravan on a 40 degree day and it started to get very hot. When I got to our destination, the Murry river at Tocumwal, I found that the thermo fans were not working.

My first thought was probably a relay. As I had not long owned the disco I had no books or manuals. I had also not long had the internet(had no interest but had young teenagers)so I suggested to my son that he finds out where the relays are located on the net(as it appeared to me at the time that you can find everything on the net)

So he went to google and came up with LROCV forum. He said to me that I need a user name and I said "Stuffed if I know. You pick something, I just want to know where these bloody relays are!"

So he picked Mr Whippy. This came about due to us being water skiers and we had just got home from a ski holiday. One of our activities is floatation devices behind the boat which when doing a high speed 360 turn the person on the back gets "Whipped" around. Because I could do great whips my boys nick named me Mr Whippy.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
