I don't reckon that the Govt is capable of delivering a strategy to make the population compliant or would know what to do if they suddenly were... It's more likely that the memory of the first outbreak, how badly it was handled and the time it took to clean up and the deaths in aged care have them terrified that it might happen again and they are being overly cautious.

Just surprises me that ATAGI (or whatever that expert body is called) could ever have said it wasn't necessary to vaccinate all aged care staff against Covid. We routinely vaccinate against influenza, so why not Covid?
Fortunately the state governments seem to have ignored them and required it anyway. Should be a standard requirement for anyone, I reckon, as part of workplace health and safety.
My former employer said vaccinating against influenza cost less than having people go on sick leave, plus it protected staff against kids bringing in diseases and infecting others.

I heard this morning a statement/claim that over 85% of the 678 deaths in Aged care were infected and died due to catching Covid19 from staff with Covid19.
Staff working at several site- Bad and was stopped at the time yet started again here in VIC for some reason! No vaccines at the time. Why flu vax is required for staff and it should be as it is proven to reduce the deaths in aged care significant and responsible decision makers decided not to freely offer at least or make it a requirement for all staff to have the Covid19 Vaccine is bewildering. A few months ago we seemed to have significant supplies to enable moving from Phase 1 1A to now 40-50 year olds is equally baffling given most of the staff are not. The responsible types not even knowing who is and who isn't vaccinated is just pathetic.

On the bright side an agreement to build a dedicated Quarantine site near Avalon Airport is to be congratulated. Bravo Zulu to that. Late but appreciated.

Get a vaccine and protect other people is not that silly is it? A close relative is about to have spinal surgery. 1 in 500 chance of very bad things was a suggesting risk. Prospective is every thing. [biggrin]

At the end of the day they will probably say " A Dedicated Quarantine Site is all we needed. Why didn't we think of that earlier? If only we'd been told?"


(Some bloody Guru/politician will probably get a gong for thinking of that & a lifetime Pension).

Not just poor olde Vic but all over the country. Airports must be popular places as they not only have oodles of spare land but it is also that the Plane Watchers amongst the internees will have something to do with their time.

Adelaide Parafield has been mentioned recently but I wonder when that will start?

I bet the surrounding residents will be happy, it now being thought it can be transmitted through air & what effect prop wash from aircraft will play. Parafield seems to be used mainly/only by light aircraft. Lovely big fans to spread it everywhere. Nice.

But some bright spark would have considered that, roight?

The main reason that care staff are allowed to work multiple sites is that they are on minimum wage (ie, under $20/hr) and employed as casuals so no sick leave, etc.
They need to work multiple facilities to survive.

Probably a good reason to be very careful with the lockdown, the highly contagious Indian variant has been found in the Positive cases that travelled to Jervis Bay. Just the news no one wanted.
