My father (and associates) at one stage were studying human brain sections from people in PNG who had died from Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (a bit like mad cow disease.... caused by a prion).
The deceased had all acquired it from eating infected cranial contents.

Yes Eevo, it could be called food for thought.
So the last I heard there were 60 cases in this latest outbreak in Vic. Is there any info on the breakdown of these cases? i.e. how many hospitalised, how many on ventilators, how many asyptomatic isolating at home? I think this information should be shared to give the public a better awareness of the outbreak.
Vic gov saying "beast" and using language that they perhaps shouldn't (attempting to create more fear). Professionals (doctors etc) saying it is not as bad as the gov are making out. Who do you believe? ATM I can't believe anyone anymore.
3 cases in hospital, none in ICU

Thanks for that, but I don't get why this info isn't part of the press release or isn't in the media. You have to go digging for it and it certainly doesn't seem as "beastly" as we are hearing.
Why stir up fear in the community? I know politicians can't tell the truth but that is exactly what people want now, honesty from our elected officials. We put them there to make decisions on our behalf to operate the government departments for our benefit. They are not there to control us, to make decisions on our behalf to our detriment.
I hate politicians, all of them!!!!!
I doubt that they were deliberately lying: the Indian variant - which this is - is supposed to be more infectious and the evidence they had at the start was that people had become infected after minimal contact. It'd be negligent to not treat it seriously. The comments about it not being so bad are with a large dose of hindsight on the basis of evidence that wasn't available to the authorities a week ago.
From our point of view, there's no curfew and it's a 10k radius now, so that's pretty slack by the standards of what we did for 112 days last year.
Big question is what happened between the 4th of May and the 24th and how the SA infection got into the first infected family with no known linkage.
No problems this morning except my arm is a bit sore (wasn't last night).
