But can I just point out that last year most of these "Victorians" who tried to cross closed borders were people who were actually from other States and were returning home to said States?
The media is reporting that these people may have travelling to the State of Origin - if that was the case then they're pretty unlikely to have been born or bred in Victoria.
Idiots in any case*. Ditto for the people who went to NZ*.
The difference this time is that there were no police checkpoints on the roads out of Melbourne and it looks like some people may have taken advantage of that.
(*Presuming that they were in Melbourne after the 28th.)

Quite a good read but it's very negative on the emergence of a new variant being that the vaccine is not effective on. Currently the data shows that the vaccines are pretty effective with two doses on all variants that have emerged. The chances of a variant that is not controlled by the vaccinations is about the same as the threat of a completely different virus emerging and causing havoc.
Completely agree that it will become endemic and that hiding under the sheets will not work in the long term.
