John - yes I an following how it works - fully understand how the Covid vaccine works and reduces transmission and reduced symptoms and reduced transmission BUT if the vaccine does not provide immunity (that is the virus cannot exist in an immune host) then herd immunity cannot exist - transmission is not killed off with the Covid vaccine so it minimises its impact rather than kills it off through stopping transmission.

Vaccinations basically killed off Small pox in the world via a vaccine that provides immunity and as a minimum herd immunity, this cannot ever be achieved with a vaccine like the current COVID vaccine that does not prevent transmission only treats its symptoms.

No. As JDNSW has said above, the 'rest of the world' as you call it, is only just beginning to live with Covid19 because more than 50% of their populations are vaccinated EG: USA / UK, but they are still seeing high infection and death rates. Vaccinations don't necessarily prevent you from getting Covid19, but they are largely preventing people from becoming so unwell they need to be hospitalised. EG: UK infections are rising, BUT hospitalisations have dropped to relatively low numbers.

Only when Australia reaches more than 50% fully vaccinated (2 doses) can 'living with it' even begin to be considered.

The actual 'rest of the world' including, India, Brazil, most of Africa, etc, are not living with it, they are dying with it - due to low numbers of vaccination. Anyone who thinks Australia should 'live with it' now is asking for the same outcome as these un-vaccinated countries.

That's the start of the big lockdown. As they discovered, you can't lockdown suburbs. There are some serious parallels with that outbreak with what's going on in Sydney at present - Western suburbs, casualised workers, migrant and non-English speaking communities .....

We've had 4 lockdowns. The most recent lockdown was triggered by a quarantine failure in South Australia, so nobody here's fault. I think at least one other lockdown was triggered by infections brought in from either Qld or NSW.

It is a 2% of income and for some an additional 1, 1.25 or 1.5% - if eligible for some sort of Health Care Card then you may or may not pay the medicare levy.

Who knows what a hospital stay will cost - but if you are a public patient then cost is covered by medicare.

JD has explained (several times) about the significance of infection rates. While it is above 1, it can very quickly get to the point where medical services cannot cope.

There are a lot of diseases that circulate in the community and we have been living with some of them for generations.

If we just "let it rip" now, we will be faced with exponential growth of cases, hospitalisations and deaths. If we get things under control through vaccinations and/or effective treatments we should be able to manage with just the occasional case in the same way that we have the occasional case of some other illnesses.

It is too soon to just live with it.

yep, USA with their 50% vaccination rate.
interesting looking at the usa graph, the vaccination rate has plateaued.
