Ok, they probably wouldn't have her "disappear" given her academic profile, not without showing a body that succumbed to "natural causes". [bigwhistle] But she (or Shi) is still going to toe the party line with regard to denial of responsibility. Mistakes happen and yes this could be one (probably) but WHY are these people playing with mixing viruses to make a super mutants in the first place? Study viruses, sure go for it, we need that, but don't make your own!!

It's a bit like a builder taking a short cut on his first house. "Well that worked ok". So he does it on the second house and then the third, fourth, etc. Until sometime in the future the houses start falling down. Doing things the wrong way will eventually come back to bite you on the arse.

Probably did, as did a few others in recent decades.

Having domesticated / farmed animals in close proximity is a recipe for infection crossovers. What was the one caused by chickens being farmed near pigs in China?

Having multi live species being butchered at consumer request in a wet market is always gonna lead to trouble.

The Hendra virus crossover from bats to horses to humans took a while to figure out. Way deadlier than Cov 19.

All the BS about 'attenuation' as if it's something thing new and only happened with virus research in the lab in Wuhan ignores the way vaccines for viral diseases have been developed over the last few decades, right here in Oz even, such as Hep A, Rubella, Cervical cancer, etc, etc.

There have been some shocking beat ups in the press recently, with full on words in the headlines like 'Evil Intent, blah, blah' and when you get halfway through the article the writer says there is no evidence China was deliberately doing anything wrong.

Opinion forming for people who are too lazy to read the whole article, or too eager to go for the grab line that was written for them.

Unbelievably, " gain of Function" experiments to enhance the virulance of viruses are carried out in every country that has a level 4 lab.. Ralph Baric, a Uni. of North Carolina expert in coronaviruses conducted NIH approved gain of function research at his lab using information on viral genetic sequences provided by Shi.

Shi said that bat viruses in China could be studied in BSL-2 labs because there was no evidence they directly infected humans. These types of experiments are carried out all over the world, with scientists sharing their results. Who knows what monster could escape from a BSL-4 lab anywhere in the World.

The key word is 'directly'.

In the same context that a human can't get the Hendra virus directly from a fruit bat, but can get it and die from a horse that's got it from a fruit bat.

Bats are the perfect biological sump, they carry all sorts of nasties, including Lyssavirus, Hendra virus , Histo plasmosis, leptospirosis, and salmonella, apart from the coronaviruses we are dealing with now. And to think the people we bought our house off used to eat them. Cut the blood vein out, chuck 'em on the barbie. Of asian extraction, they used to raise pigeons , fatten them & eat them. Quail too.Used to be quail down the back in the bush, but the foxes got them.

You can't get most of those things directly from a bat, especially the viruses....
