    A couple actually;

    Migrant underclass: arriving with dreams, ending up in chains (smh.com.au)

    There are a lot more horror stories with the rural fruit pickers etc. . But these will do for a start.

    if you call it nasty, the nasty attitudes are coming from the NSW Govt repeatedly just again this morning, the NSW Health minster says they have a problem in the western suburbs of Sydney and always he seem to mention the the migrants subtly.

    that's my whole point, they are let down by the government through lack of communication. AS I originally posted there seems to be a problem . Lack of resources in those areas. The NSW gov repeatedly mentions them so why don't they fix the issues?

    NSW should have really bitten the bullet at the start of this limo driver outbreak and made the cool mum Gladys thing across the board.

    This is not a political statement, it's about avoiding stuff that complicates getting to a good result with efficiency.

    According to this article , the residents of Fairfield are more likely to live with more people, have more children, and are less likely to have office jobs. The average house size of 3.3 people is bigger than the national average of 2.6, but more homes in this part of Sydney typically have 5 people living under one roof. There are less office workers therefore less options of working from home. There is a lot more mobility , out and about in the community, than average.Dr Chant's call for people only to shop for groceries once a week is more difficult for people who had less money in the bank and more mouths to feed. Lower earnings, lower wealth, people don't have the money to stockpile food to get by a few weeks of lock down.

    In Fairfield, less than 25% speak English- only at home, which means 3/4's of residents have English at least as a second language at home. Vietnamese [ 20.4 %] is the most spoken language followed by arabic [ 7.9 % ] Now here is the kicker;

    Residents in these areas are connecting thru their community media , thru their language media.This has made community leaders more important to communicate health messaging to a multicultural population, and that is where most people look to for their advice, which means that fewer residents would have heard official covid messages from the government thru English language news media.

    From the Daily Mail online.; EDIT should have been more mouths to feed

    It's called dog whistling, and that and the constant references to vaccines serves to deflect attention away from their own failures.

    Do you agree?
    I'd say "it depends". I live in WA, so my chance of dying of COVID right now is less than 2/10ths of **** all. Chance of dying due to un-diagnosed condition likely to be exacerbated by the AZ, non-zero in all probability more likely than **** all (however small). So, chance of dying after receiving Pfizer < AZ. Pfizer available a couple of weeks after the conversation, and fully vaccinated in a couple of weeks. AZ available now, but fully vaccinated in a couple of months.

    I chose the Pfizer. So, no. for me I don't agree. I think it's a bit more subtle, and what's right for you isn't right for everyone.

    Frankly as long as you get vaccinated I suppose it's a wash, but having the choice why wouldn't I wait a couple of weeks for a better (and ultimately faster) outcome? If I lived in NSW right now and the Pfizer wasn't available then I'd think differently, but I don't.

    That is what they thought in Qld and Vic - and note that the alarming outbreak in Qld did not come from NSW.

    Delta is in many ways a game changer, and not for the better. And without the attitude quoted above, NSW and Qld would be in a better position today (not much though, the major issue is not enough vaccines or people to administer them quick enough).

    All this petty interstate elitism is so tiresome, especially in the context of racist blame shifting by leaders around covid lockdown failures. No state is immune. No human is immune. We all need to be vaccinated ASAP.

    I was bumped from my vaccine appointment last week due to doses being redirected to Sydney and I live in NSW! It’s outrageous that the failure to prevent gets the preferential treatment while those who seek to prevent are dismissed as not being urgent.

    The whole - treat the symptom, not the cause - attitude across this country right now is pathetic.

    Daughter & son in law & there 5year old twin are in 14 day home isolation after daughter had close contact to infected person when she went for her second Vax, & son in law worked at UQ for the week setting up for UQ Open Day & probably didn't but could have come in contact with the medical student who was the 1st known carrier . We were on our way to see them when we got the call to say we could not visit.
    It's going to be fun for them keeping the twins entertained for 14 days & explaining to them why they can't leave home or go to school.
