Corona Virus

I am just being quercous here . Dose any one know why? My wife had her Covid shot (AZ) on the 14 July & I had mine (Pfizer) on the 21 July , my second shot is booked for the 11 August & my wife's is booked for mid October . So why is there a greater time between shots with AZ than Pfizer, Is it that the Gov have more Pfizer available now or is it the recommended time periods. Every one I know have had the Pfizer & there's have been about 4 weeks & I have not spoken to any one that have had the AZ to ask them. [bighmmm]

This is the WHO " what you need to know about Astrazeneca vaccine". 8 to 12 weeks between the first and second doses is the recommended rate, bearing in mind the vaccine is not totally effective if taken before the recommended rate .[ meaning there is a lower percentage rate of efficiency the earlier the second dose is taken. Some one may know that % rate, I'm not sure.]

Yes , the worry is that the schools caught up in this are some of the biggest in Qld. With hundreds , if not thousands, of students, who have now all gone home for isolation, all over the State it would seem. I think it will take a lot longer than 3 days to sort this out. All this from two people flying in from Singapore, to Hotel Quarantine. And to think Qld could have had Wellcamp up and running by now. I'm not happy to see news video of people on the Gold Coast not wearing masks or social distancing yesterday. All young people too, it seems.

When lock down was announced, all NRL games were put on hold. A game in Rockhampton was cancelled, and there was a lot of muttering in NRL circles over that. Now it turns out a woman flew to Rocky on thursday , a contractor working at the weir just west of town. She flew home on Friday, but tested positive Saturday. Now she was just one of many who may have gone to Rocky for the game, so it seems it was the correct call to cancel the game. Where she was infected hasn't been announced, but it could be vitally important as to how far the virus has gone in the regions.

So far in our area there seems to be compliance with the lockdown rules, I went for my walk along the beach front and thru Sandgate and all shops were shut, every one I saw was masked up, and people approached others as if they had spiders on them, so social distancing wasn't a problem. Testing lines are up, and it seems people are taking this seriously. I can't talk for any other places, but most of the people here have confidence in the governments plan . We all know how pearshaped this may get, and complacency is not a problem. It could get a bit rough before it gets where we would like it to be, and the general attitude is bunker down and ride it out. And look out for one another, as best we can. Can't do much more than that. Cheers.

During the stage 2 testing of the vaccines, they tried several different intervals between the first and second doses, and for each lot of volunteers measured the level of antibodies in the blood. In both cases, the interval that gave the highest level of antibodies was selected as the one to recommend. The same sort of testing determines the size of the dose.

This is the same situation as is used for any vaccine, nothing special about covid. I don't think anyone has a good idea why the interval can be different for different vaccines, but presumably it has something to do with how the second dose interacts with the immune system, and this being the case, it can come as no surprise that the intervals are so different seeing that the mechanism of how they work is different.

Edit: The standard interval for A-Z is twelve weeks (WHO says 8-12 weeks).

The Deputy Premier is just now holding a press conference.13 new cases , all linked to the original case. The lock down is being extended to 4PM Sunday, to allow contact tracers time to quarantine people as necessary. 21 thousand tests yesterday, they want to double that today. Any one in quarantine who has any problems at all must not leave home, but ring 124 COVID where teams have been set up to assist as required. The presser is still going on. The Qld Treasurer has announced a package of $ 5,000 grants available to all businesses in Qld effected by this outbreak, not just Brisbane businesses. The CMO has said she expects many more cases in the coming days, but by locking down they will be given time to trace and sort out cases before they become overwhelming. The Government and health are on the job, and we just need everyone to follow the lock down rules. And that is the X factor in all this.

What is Critical? I don't like the fact some health care workers and paramedics are slow but this OMG moment is about airline staff who are flying to and from all our capital cities and others doing interstate work like that.

A young Airline staff going to WA, SA, NT, NSW and QLD and back from locally would be able to get a Pfizer shot right? Nope. That seem silly to me. I appreciate changes are occurring yet this clear need is not yet surfaced?

Who is in-charge of this? We can fit this person in for a Pfizer vaccine this week yet I am not allowed to. If you happen to know no one please ask them to change this now- today -this minute- the no one is clearly the person making sensible decisions months ago.

I could be grumpy with nobody but just ran another 10km this morning so smiling while on hold with nobody whose call centre staff are about to be as frustrated as the Airline staff member. :) Suns out. I am alive as are you. Being grumpy gives as wrinkles :)

Israel is now starting the 3rd Jab, many here are still waiting on the first jab.
