I wasn't implying the risk of vaccine side effects was justification for not having the shots.

Just brought back memories of when I was 19, got carted off to hospital in agony. X rays, ECG, etc. Nothing wrong apparently.

Have a couple of aspirin......... you'll be right for work tomorrow. And I was, as a robust young male.

Come up here you will find just about all locals speak that way. Actually I'm quite reserved in my comments, compared to some. Just think of it as a rough term of endearment. The normal retort is that Victorians are well balanced , a chip on each shoulder. .[ it's a joke] Mind you, some very good friends are South Australians, so I may have picked up some bad habits. Don't take it to heart, and when you come up here bring your sense of humour .

The latest from Qld , 48,000 tests, 10 new cases, 8 in quarantine, 2 in the community [ for one day each] 5 children out of the 8. The figures are looking good, but we are not out of it yet. The 7,000 people in lockdown are officially called " Qld's lock down legends", and our care army is doing a great job looking after them, just like the mud army after the floods. I'm glad I live where I live.

Yep, by a long way, too!

Rivalry and differences between the colonies was a feature of life in Pre-Federation Australia. There was a real rivalry between the most powerful colonies, New South Wales and Victoria, on trade matters. Each believed that the new nation should follow their trade model. New South Wales had a policy of free trade where all goods coming that came into the state were not subject to tariffs. Victoria had an opposite policy of protectionism with tariffs imposed on goods coming into the state from other colonies. This rivalry delayed the process of federation; eventually the two colonies agreed that trade between the colonies would be tariff free, but tariffs would be placed on goods from overseas (excluding the British Empire).

Queensland and the other eastern states[edit]

Queensland is far from not only the main population but also the commercial and political centres of Australia, namely Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. At the same time, Queensland has long contributed a significant proportion of Australia's most lucrative export commodities, such as coal, beef and sugar. The disparity between Queensland's significant economic contribution and its political influence has long caused tension. The relationship is complicated by the migration since the 1970s of many people from the southern states, who have been both welcomed for the economic benefits they bring, and occasionally disparaged as "Mexicans" because they came from "south of the border". This sentiment was epitomised by Joh Bjelke-Petersen's parochialism and frequent promotion of the idea of secession of Queensland from Australia during his term as premier.
Queenslanders, especially north of Brisbane, were marginalised by the "Brisbane Line", a controversial defence proposal allegedly formulated during World War II. Under the proposal, Australia would concede the northern portion of the Australian continent in the event of an invasion by the Japanese. People from the southern states sometimes refer to Queensland as "The Deep North", in allusion to the Deep South of the United States and the socio-political stereotype associated with it. This was notably the case during the 1970s and early 1980s, when Joh Bjelke-Petersen was Premier, and again in the 1990s, when Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party from Queensland became a significant force in Australian politics.

I think where the issue becomes clouded is , if you don't have a long family history of living in Australia, you may not be aware of the parochialism present in parts of the community . And , in the most part, it is good humoured . Now I will say something that will cause me some grief, no doubt. For years up here we have had tourists coming in , well mannered, and a joy to have. A minority of these tourists have been loud, opinionated , overbearing, and just annoying in general. And this cohort always seem to come from the same place. As mentioned only a minority, but that's all it takes. Now I'm not saying Qlders don't reciprocate with that attitude when away, it's just I've never found it .

A little story , about back in the day, in the 60's in country Qld. My parents moved to Dalby while I was in the Navy [ and yes, they let me know ]. I went home on leave , and played a couple of games for Dalby Colts. The reserve grade and A grade drove to Chinchilla for a couple of games, we beat Chinchilla in both games, and the bus drove to the pub for a couple of well earned beers. Once there the local Sgt of Police met us, and told us to get some takeaways and to " **** orf". It seems the locals didn't like being beat, and were going to bung on a blue. Now our young bulls were all for it, It seemed if they weren't fighting out of towners they were fighting each other. I got the history of this on the bus back to Dalby, sitting next to block of granite, that breathed. Anyway, the coppers ran us out of town for beating their team, and we went back to the team pub in Dalby. [ you didn't walk into the wrong pub during the footie season, their were three clubs back Then Colts, Waratahs and Brothers, luckily there were more than enough pubs to go around. ] Anyway, after a couple of hours of cleansing ales, the boys were bored and you guessed it, there being no one else around they fought each other. The block of granite I sat next to grabbed me and said " You'll get all the fighting you want soon son, overseas. Come with me ". We went to the back room with the publican, and had a great time trying to empty the keg. I don't remember much after that, except that everyone was back to being best mates the next day. Not much doing in a small country town I guess. Anyway that's better than talking about the virus I reckon.

The QLD lock down may lift on Sunday [ hopefully] but it will be masks until Xmas.

Lockdown looks likely to lift, but get set for masks to stay until Christmas (inqld.com.au)

The greatest asset we have in Australia is the Tyranny of distance. And our largely decentralised States. I've often thought that Victoria were behind the 8 ball because of the small size of the State , and the number of people. Much easier to have the virus spread when the towns are so close together. More than half the Population of Qld live outside the metropolitan area. So it naturally comes about that an outbreak in Qld should be easier to control than in Victoria. As for dick heads, every ones got their fair share, but dick heads need to be governed. Slack leadership encourages dick heads. And they should never be encouraged.
