Come up here you will find just about all locals speak that way. Actually I'm quite reserved in my comments, compared to some. Just think of it as a rough term of endearment. The normal retort is that Victorians are well balanced , a chip on each shoulder. Queensland is far from not only the main population but also the commercial and political centres of Australia, namely Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. The disparity between Queensland's significant economic contribution and its political influence has long caused tension. The relationship is complicated by the migration since the 1970s of many people from the southern states, who have been both welcomed for the economic benefits they bring, and occasionally disparaged as "Mexicans" because they came from "south of the border". This sentiment was epitomised by Joh Bjelke-Petersen's parochialism and frequent promotion of the idea of secession of Queensland from Australia during his term as premier.
Queenslanders, especially north of Brisbane, were marginalised by the "Brisbane Line", a controversial defence proposal allegedly formulated during World War II. Under the proposal, Australia would concede the northern portion of the Australian continent in the event of an invasion by the Japanese. People from the southern states sometimes refer to Queensland as "The Deep North", in allusion to the Deep South of the United States and the socio-political stereotype associated with it. This was notably the case during the 1970s and early 1980s, when Joh Bjelke-Petersen was Premier, and again in the 1990s, when Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party from Queensland became a significant force in Australian politics.
I think where the issue becomes clouded is , if you don't have a long family history of living in Australia, you may not be aware of the parochialism present in parts of the community . And , in the most part, it is good humoured . Now I will say something that will cause me some grief, no doubt. For years up here we have had tourists coming in , well mannered, and a joy to have. A minority of these tourists have been loud, opinionated , overbearing, and just annoying in general. And this cohort always seem to come from the same place. As mentioned only a minority, but that's all it takes. Now I'm not saying Qlders don't reciprocate with that attitude when away, it's just I've never found it .Quote:

[ you didn't walk into the wrong pub during the footie season, their were three clubs back Then Colts, Waratahs and Brothers, luckily there were more than enough pubs to go around. ] Anyway, after a couple of hours of cleansing ales, the boys were bored and you guessed it, there being no one else around they fought each other. The block of granite I sat next to grabbed me and said " You'll get all the fighting you want soon son, overseas. Come with me ". We went to the back room with the publican, and had a great time trying to empty the keg. I don't remember much after that, except that everyone was back to being best mates the next day. Not much doing in a small country town I guess. Anyway that's better than talking about the virus I reckon.

I've often thought that Victoria were behind the 8 ball because of the small size of the State , and the number of people. Much easier to have the virus spread when the towns are so close together.
