Things are getting better in Qld for now, but we are well aware things can change very quickly with delta. We still have over 12,000 people in home quarantine , and there will be some positive cases there. However, if they stay in home quarantine , its all good. We don't need any bolters from over the border.

EDIT The CHO says keep your masks handy for the next outbreak, with compulsory masks expected until next Sunday.

I seem to recall border closures were the focus of anger and despair back at the beginning, the end of the world, it seemed. The Qld Premier, along with the Victorian Premier [ but not as virulent as the attacks on Dan] were attacked from Canberra to Sydney and points in between. It's no wonder that now we see NSW struggling to get under control a virus that has mutated to a more dangerous variant, because of what appears to be arrogance and hubris [ it may not be , but it's the perceptiion] people are looking and saying " what did you expect, you fools ".

My wife and I have three grand children. The centre of our lives ATM. In the USA now, children are being hospitalised at the age of 5 ,5 years old, and if they don't get seriously sick, they can look forward to a life of long covid. I can't tell you the dark thoughts that have gone through my mind about what should happen to these ....[.there's no word for them that I can place here. ] self centred, idealogically driven , arrogant , all of the above, plus.

NSW are blaming the people of SW Sydney, it's all their fault, they would have us believe. No thought of the philosophy of low paid casual workers that had to go to work during a pandemic, [ think aged care workers , in the original outbreaks] no thought of a population largely ignored by government to the extent community leaders of each ethnic group had to make videos in language, so the covid message could get through. [ gee whiz they are not listening to us ] No thought to the fact large parts of the population have been traumatised in Syria, Iraq and places in between , so the fact they see soldiers on the street turns them to a type of panic, and they turn inwards , away from the government they see as no better than the one they ran away from. This use of the ADF, is disgraceful, IMO. Manning check points is a lot different to seeing the military and Police knocking on your door. Ask yourself, what is the reason for them being there , if not intimidation? Is that the way we do things in Australia now?

No Rick, Qld did not follow the example of the NSW government. No thinking government would.

Good points bob, but at least the Army content doesn't kick doors in & use the rifle butt to get their attention. They are not armed as well.
Your comment about "they are not listening to us" is borne out by the repetitive dialogue/requests each morning by Gladys which appears to fall on deaf ears. Maybe she should have a DVD made & just hand it to the Channel to play each day. She could then be busy doing what Premiers are supposed to do. There has been far too much confusion with this thing by those who should know better.

Good point - you can "flatten the curve" by fiddling with the Y axis.

It wont matter what the Govt in Sydney does if people aren't doing the right thing.

As it also did here when the Pizza Guy lied.

By all means grab your share of Dunny Rolls first though.

To stop the virus spreading, people have to be stopped from moving about.
Having two levels of restrictions in NSW doesn't seem to be stopping people from moving around Sydney, as case numbers are now rising outside the 8 LGAs with the toughest restrictions, which was predictable.
Covid is also spreading into the regions and about 80% of NSW residents are now under some form of lockdown.
Having people like this allegedly breaching the restrictions isn't helping either.

In good new (isn't any good news welcome?) I read there has not been a single influenza death in Australia so far this year.
Reasons are said to include national and state border closures keeping the flu out, social distancing, masks and hand sanitising.
    So that's a positive.

Victoria has already suppressed two delta outbreaks.

It's bog standard for a lockdown to be a fortnight, because that's the incubation period and that's also why hotel quarantine is 14 days. So the extension was not a surprise to anyone here.

NB, Victoria would be covid-free if the Sydney outbreak was under control because Sydney has seeded one and probably both of our outbreaks. So it's a bit rich to be bagging Victoria for dealing promptly with an outbreak that was caused by NSW.

Des, just what exactly is the Army there for? They have no powers to arrest, they can not use force nor compel compliance with directives . Makes one think they are there purely for intimidation, and the fact that they were asked for because of " thousands of complaints people were breaking covid restrictions " , according to Police Commissioner Mick Fuller, and the fact the troops were to be deployed in the Western and South Western suburbs, but NOT the Eastern suburbs, even though the compliance rate for covid restrictions was no better in the East than the West at that time, well, that's a real bad look. Considering the population demographic between the suburbs.
