Wash them in warm soapy water. Job done. No different to packets on the shelf. Give them a wipe down With alcohol before you put them in the cupboard.

This bit of news sounds interesting among all the pointless chatter of nukes, guns and ammo deprivation. A San Francisco outfit called Distributed Bio (COVID-19 | distributedbio) is working with the old SARS virus antibodies and have reportedly manipulated this SARS antibody structure or some such thing to block the SARS-CoV-2 virus from doing anything in the body. I did some checking (critique of the report below) and Dist. Bio got some money from the Bill Gates Foundation for their research a year or so ago to work on a 'universal' flu vaccine Distributed Bio, Inc - Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation so on the face of it they'd appear to be bona fide contenders to develop something like the antibody thing. Maybe something will come of it, maybe not... Seems like a novel bit of research building on what had already been done with SARS. They're going to hand over their research results (manipulated antibodies) to the US Military which has the SARS-CoV-2 virus to try it out.

I guess we wait and see. Maybe they'll share it around the world or maybe they hold on to it like milk formula and medical masks...

But be aware of the handling before they got in the bag. as well as the bag. Apparently the virus does not die from cold only heat & I doubt you'd accept a hot Lettuce. The more one thinks about our day to day practices I reckon it could pop up anywhere ie. cracks & crevices, surfaces breadboards, cupboard handles & as many places as your mind can think of.

Vegies won't be a problem for me in a few weeks because as I have to stay put this winter I have started a veggie patch (about 100 square meters) But for now I either run the gauntlet or juse use tinned vegies which I have heaps of.

    Quite right too.

I wonder if Keel Hauling is still practiced?.
Maybe they could start it up again & do it under the Princess, What would that be approx, 100m?

All fruit like apples at our place is washed with dishwashing detergent. And as for veges cooking kills off viruses.

    Cheers

Apparently dies within a few hours or days depending on the surface.

Regardless of what comes from the shop be it fresh, tinned, wrapped or otherwise they all need to be washed if you wish to be certain of no viral transfer.

It can only pop up where people can put it.

Our hygiene and compartmentalisation practices for site are now so strict, frequent and verified that we have a damn good chance of preventing and/or containing any cases.

Good hygiene practises, Social distancing, awareness and self isolation are very effective.

But if Mr Trout picked up stock just after the display was loaded by Staff out the back, Mr Tombs, wouldn't that leave it open to contamination?

In the situation we find ourselves in today, I wouldn't be taking any chances.
