I'm not sure if you guys understand what goes into building large tank farms. You are talking three years when extremely fast tracked. Using old tanks is a no go off the bat. The continuing effort that is needed to keep tankage safe and approved for use is immense.

You are probably better off extracting the oil on your soil if you want indpendence.

You're right, we don't know what goes into a tank farm and the subsequent maintenance and compliance, but according to the ABC article I linked to above we currently have 18 days of petrol, 22 days of diesel and 23 days of jet A1 in stock.
If things go tits up globally and it can't be freighted in quickly we're buggered.

Oil exploration in the Bight should be fast tracked. However, doing something is better than doing nothing. The government is using smoke and mirrors when saying we have 81 days of fuel supplies, because 25 days of that is on ships at sea. We have more gas than just about any one else, and our oil refineries are at full production, but our storage needs boosting. Talking about it doesn't make it happen.

    "
IEA member countries are required to hold emergency oil stocks equivalent to 90 days of net oil imports. As of February, Australia held 56 days of net imports by the standard definition and 81 days worth including oil en-route to Australia.Taylor said on Wednesday commercial storage facilities in Australia are "essentially full" as the nation's four oil refiners are still pumping out product, despite having cut output amid a sharp slump in demand for gasoline, jet fuel and diesel.Longer term, Taylor said he was in talks with Australia's four refiners about storing fuel in Australia to meet the country's IEA requirement, beyond holding oil in the United States."Ultimately we want local fuel security, of course, and local fuel storage," Taylor said."But in the interim there's a great opportunity here to buy oil at very, very low prices.""

EDIT I see Canada has had over 50,000 cases and over 2,000 deaths due to the virus. How are things going over there?
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

    No, horse racing.

This seems like a good sumnary of what is known about how the virus started and spread.

Canada is a big place and the answer to that depends on location. Most of the cases and deaths are in the east. Most of the management of provincial. I think most places seem to have plateaued on hospitalized and ICU rates.

Locally (Alberta) we have one of the highest testing levels in the world. They have put in more testing capacity than they can find people to test.

Half the deaths are from an outbreak at a single long term care center. There are currently two large outbreaks at meat packing plants that account for most of the active cases. Apparently these places hire a lot of low paid immigrants that live in multi family homes and car pool across these type of houses. This lead to a fast and large spread through that whole community. They hopefully have it controlled now.

As to oil you have 100 years of supply in oil shale in your country. It is just about money. It is cheaper to bring it in from the Middle East.
