My brother lives in Houston. With this opening in mind, his sister-in-law planned a family get together with her (her husband is in hospital, not C19), her sister (my s-i-l) her daughter, her s-i-l, her grandchildren, my brother, and my niece. When my niece heard about this she immediately got on the phone to her mother to talk her out of any inclination she had to accept the invitation. (My niece won't even enter her parent's house, regarding them as too old to risk. She will however, do their shopping and either bring it round or get it delivered.)
So while shops, restaurants etc may be allowed to reopen, it is a bit unclear how many customers they will have. I should also point out that local government restrictions are not overridden by the state governor, and the LGA my brother lives in (Harris County) had restrictions in place weeks before Texas did.
"ATLANTA — Last week was a bad one for Georgia, and an especially bad one for our governor, Brian Kemp. On April 20, he announced that he would allow Georgia’s tattoo parlors, hair and nail salons and other “high touch” businesses to reopen as early as April 24, ahead of even President Trump’s ambitious plans. In the days since, the state has reverberated with political turmoil. Even the president rebuked Mr. Kemp for moving too fast.
For better or worse, the governor has made our state the nation’s canary in this particularly terrifying coal mine.
Someone had to go first, and Mr. Kemp isn’t the only political leader eager to reopen the country. But the ham-handed way he went about it makes Georgians of all stripes afraid of what comes next, and it leaves us wondering whether he is setting us up for a punishing new wave of infections. He has clashed with city and county leaders and left business owners — the people he was trying to help — in the dark.

Will be worth watching and re-visiting, maybe the end of this month which would give the Beer Virus time to infect AND display enough symptoms to cause 'canary testing'.
Taking the Other side view, some comments on these graphs please.
The UK one is a bit deceptive in that the Govt. wasn't counting deaths in Aged Care Homes, which amounted to around 2,700 for this time period. - And that would effectively close the gap... That being said, the impression (from intense media coverage) we have, is lots and lots are being taken by the virus... every day...
I can't recall the combined media ever getting itself into such a frothing frenzy over "normal" or even "serious" flu seasons... maybe the USA Murderous Measles Epidemics in Colleges, but even then, not so much.
And the US ones stop at Week 10, so around 8 weeks behind. It's the trend that looks... interesting. I was expecting COVID to add a much bigger bump
Possible confounders: - Lockdown and Social Distancing... handwashing, and simple Awareness of hygiene etc, will have a beneficial (lowering) effect on "normal" flu numbers, thus reducing possibility of deaths from 'flu.
- therefore, Normal Flu reduction.... replaced in part by COVID-19 mortality.
Then perhaps an increase in suicide, relating to economic stresses caused by job-loss, fear, etc.
