Agree, the "vibes" from China have been positive and the "numbers" have been dropping, so I think that their "Chief" going there is a good sign.
Certainly more sensible & positive than our "rule makers" who are allowing the F1 AGP to go ahead this W.E....thousands of spectators coming in from locked down countries, but able to move freely amongst us,....Madness, IMHO anyway.

No argument from me there. I wonder what would happen if it was Melbourne Cup time?

I see your point, Pickles. But if we are going to shut down Australia on suspicion that some thing might happen, we may as well give up. Go about our business, taking the proper precautions, if an outbreak occurs, as it will some where we will deal with it. If you are concerned, you don't have to go. Have your flu and pneumonia vaccinations. Don't listen to social media, they'll have you jumping off a cliff.

Has the normal racing season been stopped? There's your answer. EDIT. There will be an outbreak, in Australia. It's a given. My bet is it will be dealt with, and contained. There will be fear and hardship to deal with, but we will get through it.

I'm not actually participating in the conversation as such, I just though that your point was quite "Spike Milligan". For the record I'm a fan of his.

The whole thing terrifies me because I have a susceptible sprog and he will remain so until we are well into this whole thing.

The thing about the flu is we understand how it works, how it transmits, how it mutates, it's physiological results and we have retrovirals for it. Much less of that is understood for COVID-19 and its propensity to bring on a pneumonia is problematic for those that are susceptible.

That is bollocks Brad &, you know it wasn't what I meant. End of.

Michelle Grattan talking to Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy on the Corona virus, and Australia's preparation. MODS, this is NOT a political broadcast, more a National Health Broadcast. Everyone should stop speculating, and listen to this.

Well Bob, there are major events being cancelled throughout the world, for good reason. Bahrain GP the following W.E. will be spectator free, Chinese G.P. cancelled, Thailand Moto GP postponed for 6 months, and the Irish National Day, St Patrick's day celebrations cancelled, together with heaps of other events.
Our health system is already stretched, GPs have said, "they're not equipped", and I've just heard on Ch 2 that people coming to the GP not exhibiting symptoms, will not be checked??!!....
I wouldn't be going anyway, excellent TV coverage, I couldn't put up with the crowds.
I'm not a scaremonger, IMHO anyway, but I am a realist, & I think the Aussie "precautions" relative to Corona Virus at the F1 AGP are weak, and certainly not as "safe" as those being introduced in most parts of the world, some of those countries having less capability to do so than us, but they are nevertheless being far more precautionary than we are.

For goodness sake, stop speculating and listen to the Chief Medical Officer talk to Michelle Grattan. He makes it very clear where we are at and what our response will be, you can only be a " realist " if you have all the information available to you. An informed opinion is better than a social media inspired opinion. Or in some cases, a media opinion.
