Seriously I suspect that there are a couple of reasons:
Qld is much more dependant on tourism, particularly in the south east part of the state
The Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane corridor is a commercial and residential tract with many travellers having family in that corridor and being inconvenienced by the border closures
The population densities on the coastal border regions are much heavier than between Adelaide and other capitals with the major population centres in SA being remote from the border in most cases except maybe the Riverland.

The Qld closure impacts more people, SA,TAS and WA really only impacts travellers such as grey nomads or people with a firm travel agenda. From Sydney it is feasible to visit Melbourne or Brisbane for a long weekend, less so Adelaide.

And the locals on the Vic side of the border who need to cross for work are apparently doing so anyway. And SA treats the west of Victoria as part of SA in any case, for example kids from the Wimmera used to be treated as SA residents when applying to unis in SA.

Following on from earlier posting... a pretty dumb chain of events led to this.

In short, they didn't do their time in quarantine but were granted an exemption one week into their 2-week isolation due to the death of one of their parents. Sounds like there has been a massive slip-up in the process of managed isolation where questions weren't asked and protocols were not followed. I hope whoever was responsible was chewed out over this. Certainly lessons are being learned.

Questions now over whether masks were worn on the flights to get here and where they got it from.

There'll be a lot of ****ed off kiwis if there is an outbreak due to the stupidity of some involved in what we have been assured is a strong process. Yeah right!

I read the article and it seems a little odd that they weren't tested before they were released but aside from that it seems pretty well managed overall and it would be unlikely that they had transmitted the virus to anyone that can't be traced.

But it could easily have all gone arse up.

Surely we need travellers tested before they leave the country they are travelling from,then again when arriving.

I know the tests are not 100%,but we have to do something,or this sort of thing is going to continue.

It was mismanaged at a crucial level of management responsibility. We gave up a ****-load of freedom during lockdown to get to where we are at today in terms of the pandemic only to have two infected people let out of managed isolation by a person who did not ask the right questions and made the wrong decisions.

This was not the first case of people being poorly managed in so called managed isolation. It came out in the same news conference that two young guys absconded from the funeral party they had been given an exemption to visit. They did not return to managed isolation after they were allowed out for a funeral. Authorities had to go look for them. One is now with family and the other is back in managed isolation.

It has been announced, due to these issues, all exemptions from managed isolation for funerals or other family reasons will now no longer be granted until such time as the govt has confidence in the processes to be used. At least the govt are owning their cluster-****! Prime Minister is pretty annoyed.

Not as easy as that. These two women flew from UK, to Doha, to Brisbane then to NZ. Landed here 7 June. Released on a special exemption 13 June. Tested on or about June 14 and found positive. If they had of been tested in London and found negative they could still have then subsequently caught it anywhere in between UK and Auckland. Both sisters were positive, one symptomatic, the other asymptomatic.

People are now being traced who were also on that flight Brisbane to Auckland. They are being traced in the hotel the sisters were isolated to. They are being traced around the family in Wellington that the sisters drove to. Hoping it doesn't lead to more cases. Lessons learned.

Compounding factor was a preexisting medical condition one of the sisters was suffering from meant that the symptoms being shown were misdiagnosed as the preexisting condition (whatever that was). Whole situation was mismanaged badly.

Best thing to do is to properly manage the manged isolation as I think will now happen under a greater level of monitoring. No more exemptions to be granted until govt has confidence in the systems. Good to hear.

And of course when they stopped over in Brisbane - who did they infect at the airport.

No doubt if there is a local infection NSW will get the blame.

But if tested in London,maybe one of them,or both,could have been found to be positive.?

What i am saying is we need to do a better job with international travellers.The system we have now is not working.
