I have seen this figure a number of times, but I have to query whether it is real, or if it is, whether these are symptomatic, because if this is the case, it is very hard to see how it is possible for the disease to be virtually eliminated from places such as NZ or even NSW, yet when there is an outbreak, it can actually be tracked down to the source in most cases.

Certainly, it is clear that in a typical case there will be a period of infectivity of perhaps several days before symptoms appear, but with typical duration of the infection being several weeks or more, this can only mean 40% when the virus is spreading very rapidly. In other words, it cannot be a 'static' situatiuon.

There are asymptomatic carriers now, according to reports. He was detected the second time around by a compulsory saliva test at the airport on return from Europe. Which suggests that such tests may have to be compulsory for all international travellers for some time into the future. You would think that after detection tracking and tracing would carry on as usual, but I don't know that, of course.

    R & J by Bill Shakespeare's crappy Bogan Bruv.
The Bogan from Logan is on to something.

There is no official horticultural definition of what a weed is.
In everyday usage though, a weed is a plant out of place that is disrupting management goals.

There was a suggestion months ago that those "asymptomatic" cases would often be more accurately described as "pre-symptomatic" since some of those people had no symptoms on the day they tested positive, but developed some symptoms soon after.

I don't know how common that was then or is now. I don't know how much evidence there is to support that view.

The other issue is that while the 'standard' test used in Australia seems to be fairly reliable, and at least gives very few false positives (false negatives seem to be a bit more common), some of the other tests seem to be much less reliable, and I have seen it suggested that some of the others are responding to other coronaviruses as well as the SARS-2 virus.

Dr Karl popped a ripper in a JJJ pod cast. About 10% of people are immune to both AIDs and Coid19 due to exposure to the Bubonic plague by ancestors in Europe hundreds of years ago. 'Black death' offers clues to battling HIV, hepatitis C centuries later -- ScienceDaily 'Black death' offers clues to battling HIV, hepatitis C centuries later

What was fascinating was this discussion was it said 10% of people could get AIDs and infect others but not suffer any impacts or symptoms themselves. We know some are immune or less impacted by Covid19. More study is occurring and needed of course.

where is my family tree ?????

False -ves are a danger as a false +ve just makes people err on the side of caution.
