What a fun news day it was today.
Started with the usual Federal Government sledge of the Victorian Premier just in time to wind up a clearly agitated Andrews before his daily “The COVID State” briefing.
First he conceded that Victoria will allow returning people from NZ to enter the state from NSW with no need for Quarantine. But then he pushed not only the DHHS under the bus (again) but also his own department making it clear to all that only he has the authority to allow people to enter Victoria, before then trying the deflect the issue and bring WA, SA, and Tasmania into the debate.
The NSW government stated they understood Victoria had agreed to this arrangement, and later in the day SA and Tasmania also made no big deal over the issue noting that they followed the normal interstate arrival process.
The Australian Border Force Commissioner also confirmed no objection had been raised by the DHHS at a series of meetings to discuss how the process would work. He also noted that once a person departs the international arrivals building at the airport they are no longer considered an international arrival and subject to same rules as all in Australia.
It seems the only ally Daniel Andrews has right now is the Premier of WA, but as we all know Bogans from Rockingham do like to wind Victorians up.....(said the Bogan from Rockingham) [emoji106]
What is particularly fascinating is after Andrews was lodging an objection to this arrangement, that late last night the DHHS website was being updated several times to confirm this is in fact all OK. Nothing to see here - move on.
I think the Victorian Premier needs to take a few days off, relax and enjoy the freedom that he has bestowed on us - perhaps even travel interstate - Perth is particularly nice at this time of year. He could catch up with Mark for a beer at the Swinging Pig in Rocky. [emoji12]
A truly fascinating fairy tale DiscoDB, I also watched today's press conference, unfortunately your summary bears little resemblance to reality IMO. When you start blending fact and opinion and not differentiating between the two the result can only be a 'fairy story' and should be seen as such IMO. I'd urge anyone truly interested to look up the Press Conference on U tube or whatever and make up their own mind :)
I find the the Premiers news conference a useful source of information as it hasn't been 'contaminated' with the biases and outright political manipulation of what passes for journalists and partisan owners/editors these days. There's an old saying that "Truth is the first casualty of war" and it certainly seems the case here in the 'War against Covid'. I watched a Channel 7 so called 'News Bulletin' a couple of weeks ago and would have burst out laughing if it wasn't so serious. A total mish-mash of the days (Covid News Conference information) liberally laced with a right wing political overlay and opinion, as news a total disaster which bore little resemblance to the facts/events of the day. The lack of separation between fact and opinion and the use of emotive language is seemingly now de rigueur for the commercial networks though Aunty is making valiant headway in catching up in this race to the bottom :( I can really understand why mainstream news services are totally distrusted and ignored by younger people today.
An interesting aside to the Premiers daily News Conference is the interaction and banter between the Premier and the Newsies. Most are polite, knowledgeable and well up to the task but there's a couple of standouts for all the wrong reasons. The obvious standout is one amazingly rude and arrogant female reporter who is usually to the Premiers left (right of screen). A real FIGJAM personality if ever there was one whose excrement is definitely not odorific. Her total lack of professionalism and manners is amazing, if she was a child she'd get her bum slapped and sent to bed with no tea. Her rudeness, lack of respect and aura of self importance is quite laughable. I'm surprised that she hasn't been barred/thrown out till she learns how to behave in adult company. I can only assume she's part of the Murdoch stable. Who is this masked bitch ?
Another stand out there for a while was an anonymous Irishman, not exactly the 'sharpest tack in the box', but good for a bit of a giggle with his ridiculous NFI questions. Who was this masked Paddy ?
Deano :)
I feel the wheels might be starting to fall off our method's of control & containing the virus , just hope we dont end up like Europe .
