As soon as you pass through customs and leave the international terminal you have entered the state. You may of course go back in through security and immigration if you are continuing on an international flight.

Interestingly Qantas was running international flights from Melbourne and Sydney to Perth (continuing on to London) and as a domestic passenger you could get on this flight for just the domestic leg but you still had to clear security and pass through immigration at the international terminal.

IF true, the only good news I've heard from Victoria in a long time !

Yes is a furfy spread by the detractors. On a positive, not sure of exact numbers, but the Vic road toll is down by about 100 on this time last year.

Victoria might have a lower road toll, but there seems to be no significant overall similar reduction elsewhere. At least early in the pandemic, the reduced traffic levels were more than compensated for by the (relatively few) idiots taking advantage of low traffic levels to travel at ridiculous speeds.

It is coming. The rise in UK cases started about the beginning of September ago and the rise in deaths started in the middle of September. There is around a two week lag in the shape of the two trends. The case rate has tripled in the last three weeks and the death rate will follow suit most likely.

Kiwis can come into Australia under special conditions making them different to other international arrivals, but they are denied Medicare and other social security and can be jailed and deported, so we have hundreds locked up in detention camps right now - Kiwis are the largest group in detention, I believe.
Was interesting to see Lindsay Fox on TV saying how well Victorians had done reducing cases from about 800 to a handful and comparing it to the situation in Europe and the UK which are going in the opposite direction.
Boris's plan to divide the UK into three zones of restrictions seems similar to what has actually happened in Australia with varying restrictions between the states.

A bit off topic But the reason these Kiwi's are being deported is because they have been convicted of crimes that attracted more than 12 months detention So they deserve to be deported.
The Kiwi's Do get a "Special" deal here But if they cannot behave themselves then they get sent back home after completing their time in the naughty corner.

My faith in border control increased slightly this morning.

Crossed the NSW/QLD border around 4:30am.

The B Double in front of me was waved through which was fine.

I was directed to pull over and had a lengthy discussion with a policeman and was allowed to continue which I was happy with.

Policeman was a little confused when I asked him which permit he wanted to see as I had an X permit and a freight permit. He also wasn’t aware that there are unmanned locked gates that can be accessed which I have a approval for as well.
