WA shouldn’t be counting domestic arrivals from NSW as part of the international arrivals count. But they can request people coming from NSW to go into quarantine if seen as a health risk.

At the same time I believe WA has increased the cap on international arrivals - so a step in the right direction to get people home in time for Christmas.

I see the real Coronavirus death toll in the USA is 300,000 excess deaths, not the official 220,000. America really is great again.

That's just it the Kiwi's are NOT "Domestic" arrivals they are overseas travellers that simply "Transited" through Sydney and WA didn't sign up to this one way BS "travel bubble" Farce, So Yes as far as WA is concerned they are treated just the same as Any other overseas arrival.

You don’t transit anymore when arriving from overseas and clearing customs. You enter NSW and then transfer to the Domestic terminal. I know because I have done this trip hundreds of times. They even call it a Domestic Transfer.

Transiting passengers technically do not enter the country and must remain in the international terminal under federal jurisdiction.

However, if WA requires recent NZ arrivals into Australia to also spend 14 days in quarantine then that is WA’s call even though you have to question if this is truly needed for those coming from NZ which had effectively eliminated community transmission.

I know this is distressing for some people, but it is good to see SA and Victoria recognising that these arrivals are not a risk and looking at establishing direct flights from NZ rather than the higher risk option of them arriving via NSW. Sounds like Tasmania are looking to do the same.

On the topic of caps on International Arrivals. I wonder when Victoria will be expected to take arrivals again - but perhaps under Federal Government control of the hotel program this time using the ADF.

Latest update as at 1pm, 18 infected Russian seamen. They are part of a cohort of 237 seamen imported last Friday. They apparently did two weeks self-isolation, and were tested three days before the flight but that was delayed a day so 96 hours preflight test. Two were found positive and denied boarding.

It was a consortium of three fishing companies that privately bought these guys in working with the NZ Govt.

In other news, the port worker infected here as a community case alluded to in an earlier post was an electronics engineer contracted to work on various ships around NZ while berthed. Two work colleagues have since tested positive and are in quarantine. The boat they suspect the electrics guy was infected on is now at Brisbane - the Sofrana Surville. There are indications in the media the crew is being tested by Aust authorities and the results will be forthcoming. The genome sequence of the port worker is new to NZ and not associated with any other case here.

23 infected now.

The NZ govt press release was very informative but forgot to mention that the flight from Moscow was Russian sailors.
