no one is transitting through NZ. All arrivals are in quarantine for 14 days and are tested during and at the end of quarantine.

Yes and when these Kiwis in Vic want to go home, unless there is a direct flight from Melbourne to Kiwi Land they will have to go into isolation in NSW for two weeks (or be denied entry to NSW to fly from Sydney) then do another 2 weeks when they get back to Kiwi land - the sheep will be looking really worried by then .

From what I understand, most of the people on that flight to Oz, were 'one wayers'...kiwis wanting to get 'home' to Oz or indeed Aussies going home. As I said in a previous post, you will find that there won't be too many kiwi holidaymakers heading over to Oz, the time and cost of going into quarantine upon arrival back to NZ, will be strongly discouraging.

An upside to all of this, is that NZ accommodation etc, is fast being booked up for xmas etc, by kiwis, going on holiday in their own country, like we did in the old days!

According to the Johns Hopkins data:

NZ has 40 active cases.
NSW has 1,138 active cases.

And now it seems Daniel Andrews does want to stop people coming from NZ transiting via Sydney on the basis of why should people be allowed to come from NZ when even Victorians are not free to move around their own state. Yet our state’s borders remain open to anyone else in Australia (as it should).

There is no logic to this madness.

We should be embracing and welcoming those that want to return here and we should be removing the restrictions on movement in Victoria.

The reason that Morrison et al were keen to set this up was so that NZ tourists would come over and spend money but according to you (and I don't doubt it):

1. all that they've done is set up a back-door return process; and

2. Kiwis are going to travel and spend their money in NZ in any case.


Edit: and if Victorians can't go to NSW or NZ - because of COVID - how can Morrison have so happily allowed travel in the other direction?

And as far as I'm aware if you're here you're thereafter subject to our restrictions - and that means 5km radius and not leaving again (or not without permission).

Are you sure they would "have to go into isolation in NSW for two weeks" if they were transiting through Sydney?
I know of family members who transited through Sydney recently (not to NZ though) without the need to isolate.
