Which is approaching the start of their FLU season, (a corona virus), so no surprise that THIS corona virus is champing at the bit. Yes, it will come back, hopefully not as savage. - It's already taken out the weakest in health !

Once again, need to discriminate between dying OF or WITH SARS-cov-2, a.k.a. covid-19 or... big "OR" some of those unfortunate demises may well be influenza. Both the UK and US have been guilty at times of combining numbers....as covid. Even if not proven but only 'reasonably suspected' (without testing...)


Official figures can be massaged to whatever you want to prove.
Good case was 2020 First Quarter Respiratory Deaths in England & Wales, the 5-year average is 27,xxx but this year, even adding the covid-19 to the mix, total mortality was 25,xxx. Or, Covid SAVED 2,000 lives !
Not only but also, the weird thing is.... "Influenza" deaths in UK and Europe are markedly lower than previous years. - That's tested / proved 'flu infections.[bigwhistle]

So update on this. As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald and various other outlets as coming from the Victorian CHO (you know, the dude who can't remember he not only received, but replied to an E-mail on private security for the quarantine hotels), it is allegedly possible that this was a "false positive". The contact tracers (who I've been reliably informed by those subject to contact tracing) are apparently hopeless, and I'm led to believe follow up tests have been negative and nobody has any idea "where it might have come from" if indeed they had it in the first place.

I wasn't game to ask how many people had been tested given everyone who had been on the ward for more than 2 hours since Sept 30 was tested (eventually).

My lad had 3 tests in a week. Thankfully he was only conscious for one of them.

Actually not. The data clearly shows excess deaths are much higher than are accounted for by official Covid deaths. Thus the deaths due to Covid are substantially higher than what is being reported. This is true for almost all countries and especially true for the US and the UK, both of which publish the data publicly. Feel free to disagree, however the data is straight fact and any belief otherwise shows that you do not believe in reality.

Absolutely correct. In fact, the situation is probably worse than the excess death figures show for many countries, because nearly everywhere has taken some effort to try and stop the spread of covid-19, and even where these infection control measures have been less than stellar in controlling the pandemic, they have reduced the spread of other infections that have similar transmission mechanisms. Most notable is influenza, which is much less infectious, but also much more widespread in many countries.

This is attested by evidence such as that published in Denmark early in the pandemic, which clearly showed a 75% reduction in the proportion of positive tests for influenza with the introduction of movement restrictions, despite the same number of tests being performed.

Another possible indicator supporting the excess number of deaths as being an underestimate of covid-19 deaths is the publication in the last couple of days that suicide rates in lockdown in Victoria have not increased as was expected by some.

And as an indicator of Australia's success in dealing with the pandemic is that for Australia, once reported covid-19 deaths are accounted for, the excess death number is very small.

The allegations against the Victorian CHO are only going to get worse yet over his role in the Chain of Command for the bungled hotel quarantine program.

It is claimed that not only did he attempt to hide the emails regarding the security arrangements, the details that he could not remember but did not want to be handed over, but it seems these e-mails also showed Victoria had knocked back ADF support as well.

The CHO also attended all the meetings on how the trans-Tasman process would work and never thought to alert the Premier to what was being proposed as he had no concerns - to which the Premier’s agitated response to the media was you have to wonder why they have meetings at all.

And then it seems the CHO and his team also gave health advice that the Cox Plate race could host 500 people.

I have full confidence in the medical advice - it just seems what is lacking is judgement on when to ask for help, when to escalate an issue, and when to read public sentiment.

Tough times - let’s home the improving trend in Australia continues.

I do feel for the Vic CHO who, from far away Brisvages, looks to have done a good job on COVID and I understand he's become some sort of sex symbol to those ladies stuck at home.........

But back to topic.....

I don't get the reluctance on VIC officials to tell the truth re private security. Too late now I know but why didn't they say from the outset that they used private security to save money and police resources? Makes sense to me but maybe I'm missing something? Having the coppers or ADF on guard is no guarantee that COVID idiots won't sneak out or try to have it off with their guard. The whole issue rings of mock outrage to me but of course now its gone too far with politicians and public servants lying and all.

The CHO must have been employed by SA Motor Registrations at one stage for that is pretty much the reply I received from them after they had sent my paperwork to Port Lincoln for processing & denied they had received it, ever.

They obviously didn't notice the Time Stamp on the paperwork when they first rcd it. Yep, they got it wrong again.[bighmmm]

Don't you believe it is all about losing face, future promotion, credibility, loss of Super et al, or does he really really have a bad memory but for a CMO that would be a bit of a disadvantage? For a GP it would be bad but for him even more so.

Personally I believe there is one hell of a lot more dirty sludge to come out of the Inquiries with major repercussions, same as the AP debacle. Just a matter of biding one's time & living long enough.[bigsad]
