Corona Virus

Sydney is the main problem, as there are few cases in regional NSW. Sydney is a concentrated area with a dense population. I'm surprised masks aren't required on public transport in Sydney to limit transmission. Sewage tests show people are still shedding virus particles in Sydney, so the virus is still out there.

Looking good for further easing of restrictions, but will Qld say Sydney still has hotspots?

Yes because NSW has the best detection regime in the country - it is circulating at low rates in most states as shown by poo samples but is not being detected otherwise - remember that woman a little while back from Townsville who was detected in Melbourne by their superior detection regime and when they went back and checked in Townsville - found in the Townsville poo water. It took the Victorians to detect that it was in Townsville and Qld did not have a clue until then - and of course the detection went against Vic numbers not Qld numbers.

And looking at their Friday figures, well on the way to topping that again!

And a GOP State governor in the US (can't remember which one) has already refused to comply if the incoming Federal administration looks towards a short term lockdown to get the virus under control.
Even a Supreme Court Justice has addressed the Federalist Society (very conservative movement) and said that whatever has been done already in terms of lockdown is an affront to civil liberties and in his opinion illegal.

Incredible attitudes towards your fellow humans.

A number of years ago the Australian historian Gavin Dawes started to write a book on the experiences of allied POW's in WW2 under the Japanese, with a focus on the US experience as they were held across every Japanese territory.
It ended up as an anthropological study, as he stared to compare all the allies and every nation broke down into 'tribe's' and reacted differently.

It's telling that the US servicemen were the only ones that are known to have committed murder of their own men amongst the POW's, and that if men gambled rations and went without no one helped them, that was just too bad and some starved to death.
It's a fascinating read.

I read one story which said the Covid pandemic numbers were rising fastest in the US states which voted for Trump. So, being unkind, Trump supporters seem determined to get sick and maybe die. Actions have consequences. Darwinism at work?

Cognitive dissonance must be through the roof in the US atm.
At a guess at least 70 million people are suffering it looking at voting figures.

The other issue is that it appears that all that’s required to enter NSW from NZ without doing quarantine is to make a declaration that you’ve been in NZ for two weeks, flash that at immigration in Sydney and you’re through. No recent test result required and no checking that you have been there for two weeks ....

Goes back to my point above - just because these visitors are from NZ doesn't mean that they can't have COVID-19. Everyone arriving in the country should at least be scanned for a temperature and either be tested or have a recent test result.
