Stop spreading garbage. Two vaccines are fully tested and approved for Australia, and both are by any normal definition vaccines. Both have already been tested and results assessed in more subjects than almost any vaccine you have ever had. And the effectiveness of both is high compared to most commonly accepted vaccines, if not quite as effective as the most effective. In common with most vaccines, surveillance of results and reporting of side effects continues for several years - no different to other vaccines, this does not mean they are experimental. They have been administered to more people than most vaccines ever, and side effects required to be reported - with very little showing up.

    ........

then there is this pic doing the rounds... Real or fake-news ? - like other VIP's getting jabbed... by a syringe still wearing the orange needle-cover.

That orange colour is not a needle cover. It is an identifier of the particular type of needle used for this vaccine, and is at the base of the needle. Calling it a needle cover is quite simply a lie which is being deliberately spread via social media conspiracy theorists, and I am surprised that you are silly enough to help spread it to generally more sensible places such as this forum.

Also with so many countries stopping it, will they accept people vaccinated with Astra when the borders start opening up.

Not such an issue for me but it will cost me about $45 to get the jab at my Doctor - he does not bulk bill so will still charge his usual charge and I will have to claim back the medicare fee of about $40.

The whole thing is just plain messy and does not inspire confidence in the admin of the process.
Your Doctor is making a mistake if he gives you a Covid Vaccine and bills you a Cent It is a huge issue and problem for all GP Doctors as they cannot really allow vaccinations during a normal consultation for other normal medical issues! It has to be two separate services ! We are not normally a Bulk Billing clinic ( except for Vets, Pensioners, under 16 ..... )

You might like to politely suggest he/she reads this The vaccine suitability assessment service is free to patients and the MBS items must be bulk billed.

Well then I suspect he will withdraw from giving vaccinations (well seeing that they haven't actually started he will not start) - only small minority of GPs in my area are on the list at the moment.

He withdrew processing medicare rebates for normal consultations because of the impost and cost to his practice. So you want a medicare rebate, the patient has to deal with Medicare themselves.

James I have a brilliant idea even if I do say so myself. Maybe you could pass it on to The Health Minister.

Scene, Car Park of local practice.

"Righto you lot listen in. This practice has a new idea to give prompt vaccinations. I'll run it past you so there are no misunderstandings ok?

Righto, Left armers line up to my left & Right armers to my, (sighs),You have preempted me Madam, yes, to my right. Thank you.

Spacing between lines 1m, ok? Our technical equipment consisting of two round discs fixed to a wheeled carriage will be pushed down between the two lines, we are endeavouring to move into the 21st Century & motorise this equipment but as we haven't had time to co-ordinate this we need to use the Manual version using Wooden wheels.
Each disc will have the facility to mount 100 spring loaded Needle launcher Tubes. We are trying to increase the treatment rate by using both sides of these discs but that could be the Mk 2 Model.

Each launcher tube is ejected in it's turn by a wooden peg on the wheel (don't bother yourselves with how this is done it is too technical to explain here to a group of non medical people ) & as it comes past you, & assuming you have judged the correct spacing, will propel the syringe into your arm where another extendable wooden peg will move the plunger in the forward direction & as you run away very impressed by this technology make sure you go past the yellow needle drop off bin by the SA Ambulance Nurse.

These needles will be recycled after correct Sterilisation (in the lunch room sink by a highly qualified Staff Member).

Well that about wraps it up for how this essential service will be carried out.

Jolly good luck to you all.

    Jim.

Love it. I just got to dump on a very cool Prof Kidd. Our very own 2nd chief health officer of Australia. On ABC as I jumped back in my car I heard him say ring your GP for ..... The known Unknows

They kindly put me on Asking people NOT to Ring your GP and not to ring around as we are drowning in phone calls which my staff cannot possibly answer
I did suggest I would happily give them all Prof Kidds phone number to ask when we will get vaccines and when we will get more than the 50 per week which is less than 3% of what we need to cover our existing patients in the 1B phase.
The production staff at the radio have my number on the white board to call for a response the next Polli type who suggest calling your GP for information or resources they have not give us yet

Prof Kidd who clearly is not in a GP practice now EDIT I did not mean to put the AUSLAN version up. I do like it as I could not hear him say call James staff!

It now appears & is generally accepted that this was extremely badly organised, although how Julia Gillard got hers last week defies logic to me. She is certainly not of the age group for !B. Very smug she was & I suppose one of her mates thought it would be confidence boosting, like most of them at the top of the queue say. We plebs can't make our own minds up it seems.

"Oh yes, the old "we are all in this together" bollocks. is really starting to **** me off quite quickly.

It seems some plebs have difficulty making up their minds or they have been bombarded with so much misinformation that they need something to restore their confidence. It is quite clear from some of the comments here and on other social media sites that some of the plebs have been misled or confused by some of the nonsense doing the rounds.

I have read that when Elvis Presley got his polio vaccine, that there was an immediate increase vaccination rates.

Of course committed anti-vaxers won't be convinced by any amount of evidence or encouragement, but at least it eliminates their argument that if it is really safe, then the politicians or officials who are promoting it should prove it to us by getting the vaccine themselves. Gillard has been encouraging people to get the vaccine. Getting it herself is an important part of promoting the vaccine.

I am happy for a handful of politicians , ex-politicians and even a few celebrities to jump the queue because I think it is a very small price to pay for the possibility of convincing some people who are confused or just hesitant.

As someone said, "If you don't believe the health officials who are telling us that it is safe, maybe you should believe the rich people who are jumping the queue to get the vaccine."

agree with that. Like the Pommy PM getting a jab. He has had Covid so might not have been as needy. Pictures of my mates getting it are fine but private. Pictures of Pollies and high profile people getting it are good I feel. Love to see a 8 or 10 jabs at 1/2 time at the footy myself
