One of my sons had the AZ shot late last week.

Apart from a couple of days of headaches, he hasn't mentioned anything else.

Except he has to go back in 12 weeks for another shot, and probably more headaches.

Compare this to a case-fatality rate for the virus of around 3% in Australia.

As for using the Pfitzer vaccine instead of the AstraZeneca one, consider these points.

    1. AstraZeneca vaccine is ramping up production in Australia
    2. The cold-chain requirements for the Pfitzer vaccine mean it would be much more difficult to distribute in Australia anywhere outside major hospitals.
    3. The Pfitzer vaccine has only one manufacturer, and is in short supply. Because it uses new technology to manufacture it, a long lead time and a lot of money is needed to set up to manufacture it, even after negotiations with Pfitzer for a licence. This means supply of it will be very constrained at least until well into next year.
    4. The Pfitzer vaccine costs approximately ten times the AstraZeneca vaccine.

So no, I do not think there is a viable alternative available. There will be, but probably not the Pfitzner one. If I had to bet I would guess Johnson & Johnson as it is a one dose vaccine. But it will not be this year, or even early next year.

Of course there are other causes of blood clotting. One of which could have happened like it did for me years ago, ie, pruning a Crab Apple Tree & bending over while up a ladder my LH side of my neck was compressed into a branch fork & pressure was applied as I strained forward to cut.

According to the Ambos who attended here because I got the wobblies & confirmed later by the ER Duty Doc it had released some internal crap ( name ??) inside my LH Carotid Artery in my neck. I didn't come a gutsa off the ladder but seized up 10 Minutes later when my Left side went googly. Twice. Was called a T I A then. (Transient Ischemic Attack) Described by the ER as a blood clot. Not re-occurred since then, but then I haven't lopped any more Crab Apple trees either.

If they knew the bloke's activity at that time they should be able to put their finger on it.

Most strokes (87%) are ischemic strokes. An ischemic stroke happens when blood flow through the artery that supplies oxygen-rich blood to the brain becomes blocked. Blood clots often cause the blockages that lead to ischemic strokes.

    Just sayin'.

If I can't grab it it'd be handy to bash it with.
A stillson pipe wrench. What a concept, an adjustable doo da. Or is it just rusted through lack of use? Surely a Land Rover driver would be on top of that , a quick spray of lanolin, application of Au de axle grease [ perhaps a shower to mask the oil smells] , romance is in the air. Or is that COVID ?

So the world hasn't ended for him? No oblivion?

Here, indoors had a bit of a hot area around the Needle site for a couple of days & that was all.

Me, nothing apart from a "floating" Headache of sorts. Came & went for a couple of times for about a minute then nowt, & that was 2 days ago.

Only by 81 years. One of the best shows I've seen about Churchill was 'Darkest Hour ',set in 1940. Churchill had just been selected as PM , not many wanted him, not even the King. He was considered a drunkard, and vilified over Gallipoli, in WW1. The British army was on the beach at Dunkirk, and Viscount Halifax wanted Mussolini to help forge a peace treaty with Hitler. If Churchill didn't, Halifax and Chamberlain were going to resign , and a vote of no confidence would have forced Churchill to resign. And Mosley, the British Nazi, would have eventually been PM, over a Nazi Britain. With all that that entailed. At his lowest moment Churchill stepped out of his vehicle, and went down to the tube. He spoke to the people, asked what they wanted to do. To a person, they said fight!. He went back to his party room, and with an inspiring speech, had them cheering for war. Then to the War Room, where he had to give an order that doomed a brigade of British soldiers at Calais, to the south of Dunkirk. Brigadier Nicholson was ordered to attack the left flank of the German army, to draw them away from Dunkirk. He did it without question, The Brigade was destroyed, but Dunkirk was evacuated. EDIT. Then to the House of Commons where he gave his "on the beaches " speech.

And the King. He warmed to Churchill, and eventually told him so. King George V1was pleaded with to take his family to Canada, and rule from there. His reply was that his duty was with the British people, and he would share whatever hardships came to pass.

Now that, Des, is leadership. What we have witnessed in Australia ATM is not. Just had to get that off my chest.

81 Years! A mere drop in the ocean of history m'boy, as you may find out one day..

I doubt Boris will ever be seen in that light. Wooly headed & **** for brains bastard that he is.

Indoor's old man was at Dunkirk, Hardly ever spoke about it. But he opened up after he was at Normandy though & was awarded the Military MBE for services there in keeping equipment running, as well as the Newfoundland Regiment's 7.2" Howitzers operating.
    He was attached to REME.

MBE on left of Medal Bar others are general Service as he joined the royal Artillery as a Boy Soldier at Woolwich & was party to the installation of the Big Guns at Singapore. I used to take the **** telling him he was the one who ordered the Guns to face out to sea.
These have never been shown online before & were found in a Hidey Hole in a wall after he died. Apparently he didn't want his Missus to get her hands on them & flog them. Indoors was present at the special Parade Ground ceremony in Mogadishu when the MBE was presented.

( He chose that, rather than returning to the UK to have it presented by HM King George VI) Not a bad old codger when he wasn't on the Dry Sherry. (No, not George) He & I used to have some good chats. & was proud when I went into Nasho. Dunno why he thought he needed to drown his sorrows though. He was a WO1 when he came into my life & in RAEME

Family Story. When he arrived back in the UK after standing in the sea for a week at Dunkirk his mother recommended he put his feet into a Salt Water bath to ease the swelling. Gerald's MBE Medal Bar.jpg
