Meanwhile I've fastened the box so he can't get out. Haven't told the wife yet, as she will just go beserk and insist I execute the snake, which I don't want to do as it is a lovely snake, but we've lost too many chooks already to pythons.
DM, I'll assume that you won't see this post until after the relocation but, I'll post it anyway.

A snake should not be relocated any further than 500 metres.

Which rule are you wanting to break.
1 - You're supposed to be in quarantine, having only recently entered the state.
2 - Stay home except for necessary errands.
3 - The illegal relocation of native wildlife.
Why not kill the snake where it is? Relocation of native animals is a death sentence in most cases anyway, so save the fuel.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

We don't have any Pythons where we live, how big is it, and what is a usual length, and how big can they grow?

How about leave it at the front gate for the local snake catcher to deal with it?
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Yes, that's option, but it costs about $200.

Pretty sure the wife will want it taken further than that. There is a nearby forest - nature reserve, so might be the go. It should be happy there.
I certainly won't be killing it - they are protected.

So these 'other' beaches will now be overcrowded with those that use to go to the now closed beaches.

If you relocate it, you're giving it a death sentence and breaking the law.
When you've killed that one, another will move in to take its place. The attracant (the introduced chooks) is still there.
