I asked her if there were any real (not clickbait etc) breakthroughs in Covid19 vaccination development.

    Her answer....NO

Stop getting excited with media releases, they are there so you follow their advertising...get it?

She said if there was anything developing , they....the PHN network would know and would be gearing up for millions of vaccination kits .....and that isn't anywhere near happening at the moment.
Yes, your wife is 100% correct,...cut away from all the hype, "ifs, buts, sounds promising" etc etc etc, which, as a matter of fact, I wish, with every bone in my body, were true.
But unfortunately they aren't. Had to visit my Doctor today to get my flu shot, and He said "no-one is even close",....He likened it to finding a vaccine for the common cold!
He said that He couldn't rely upon the discovery of a vaccine in the foreseeable future. So I asked him what was the solution?, His response, "Isolation", which everybody knows won't solve the problem, but as things stand at the moment, there's not much choice.

Ah, well, Pickles, at least we will be able to refer to it as 'Hibernation' in a month or so!

After years of marriage to someone, who is referred to these days as an 'Health Professional' and who has always reminded me, when I'm crook, that there is always someone worse off then myself (even though at the time, I know this statement couldn't possibly be fact) I am sure that, in this present situation, the adage does ring true.
    Chin up!

Here's a summary of the state of restrictions in the USA.
Opening up too early, in the country which already leads the world by far in sufferers and deaths, risks a huge second wave in infections, particularly since they are not testing nearly enough people to know the real situation or trace contacts with people who test positive.
In comparison, we in Australia are doing just great.

More than 41,000 people have died in the US. Why is there talk of easing restrictions?
Coronavirus lockdowns are being protested by Americans. Why does Trump want to ease restrictions? - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Our NZ Prime Minister has just announced we are staying in Level 4 Lock Down until after midnight Monday 27th when ANZAC day is observed as a public holiday. One more week then to level 3.

Our new revised Levels chart is here if it is of interest.

"Easing restrictions", ANYWHERE (except China according to them?) is a recipe for disaster, IMHO.
But there are those in Victoria screaming for it, people in the USA demanding it, and Mr Trump?........well it will be interesting to see what He ACTUALLY relaxes.
As I've said elsewhere, I can't see how there can be any relaxation of anything anywhere.

Thats interesting. A friend of mine works for Johnson & Johnson medical, he knows whats happening in there. They've been working on a vaccine since January via their Jannsen Vaccines subsiduary. Their vaccine uses the same biological platform as their developmental vaccines for Ebola, Zika and Influenza. Their tests so far have been that positive on non-numan testing, (human testing starts approx Sept) that they are gearing up to start production right now while they simulaneously go through the formal approval procedures as required. They're happy because the base product already meets all of the WHO key attributes for a vaccine and 50,000 people already have tested the base platform with success. Production will be in the Netherlands and in the US via J&J facilites and hopefully outsourced in Europe and in Asia. The reason why they are starting production now is because they are pretty convinced that it works and will be approved and they want the vaccine to drop immediately after approval. Early 2021 is their expected eta for approval and release. In terms of breakthrough, its mainly done.
    Cheers

Those calling for a relaxation, particularly OS are either dumb/incapable of seeing the big picture or so self centered and self absorbed they don't give a fig about anyone else, but if they got sick would scream why wasn't something done sooner. Corona Virus

Even economists here are suggesting that we need to maintain the current situation, as a relaxation and then bounce in poistive numbers and deaths would be far more damaging sociologically and therefore economically.

In my view we'll never see a magic vaccine for SARSv2. We haven't managed it in 30 years for Malaria or for SARSv1, why is this any different? What we can hope for are developments in TREATMENT techniques that reduces its severity.

Its here to stay. I would say travel, especially internationally, is going to be hugely changed over the next 4+ years, if not forever..

Residential Rentals - Landlords vs Tenants in Qld

I just received this summary of the new Residential Tenancy Rules in Qld. If you are a tenant all your Christmas' have come at once and if you are a Landlord you just have to wear the costs.

1, Your tenant/swill NOT have to pay back any rent. Put simply, a rent reduction negotiated with your tenant/sis a permanent rent waiver meaning you, as the landlord, will be out of pocket, with no means of recovering any unpaid rent in the future post COVID-19.

2 ,You CANNOT ask your tenant/s for any proof of financial hardship. Your tenant/s can request reduced rent due to COVID-19 without any proof. This potentially exposes you to false claims and exploitation of the proposed protections for those who genuinely need it.

3,Your Landlord Insurance will NOT cover you for rent in arrears. The normal terms of your policy won’t cover the rent reduction as this is a mutual agreement between you, as the landlord, and your tenant and you cannot follow the necessary rent default process as this is prohibited. (*Please contact your relevant insurer for individual policy conditions)

4, Your tenancy agreement WILL immediately extend by 6 months if it expires during the 6 month freeze on evictions. Tenants will be automatically entitled to a 6-month extension of the tenancy agreement meaning any protections may last up to 12-months.

5,Your tenant/s can REFUSE ENTRY for anything other than emergency repairs. Not only can your tenant refuse access, they don’t have participate in virtual property inspections either. There’s also no clarity as to whether prospective purchasers can inspect a property that is for sale.

6,Your tenant/s can BREAK A LEASE with only 7 days’ notice. To make matters worse, you cannot recover any lost rent or costs associated with finding a new tenant as would normally apply.

It is quiteunfairto the landlords and agents, these rental law reforms dont get the balance right. They unfairly impact the property rights of many owners and will hurt people like small mum and dad investors and self-funded retirees.

So if you have leased property in Qld you are at the whim of the tenants and if you dont agree then tough. Some sort of expedited review process should have been put in place.
