    Section 117 was probably the wrong one, the relevant section is section 92 - the issue about section 92 is that the High Court might permit restrictions but they'd need to be proportionate, non-discriminatory and limited in time. If Australia as a whole has few new coronavirus cases I don't think that the WA, Qld and Tas hard borders are really justifiable.

    It's also really interesting - astonishing really - how quickly those barriers went up: we really are acting less like a country and more like a customs union.

    I see little wrong with this reason;

    "Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk continued to flatly reject calls to let southerners back into her state on Thursday.“We are not going to be lectured to by a state that has the highest amount of [coronavirus] cases in Australia,” she said in Brisbane.NSW reported two more coronavirus infections on Thursday, and has had 49 deaths. Queensland had no new cases, and has had six fatalities." [ two of which came from NSW]

    And the border is not closed to essential travel. As for that fine example of sensible thinking;

    "However, the Queensland border is still open to trade and for interstate travel on compassionate grounds.Ms Palaszczuk appeared unconcerned by the threat of legal action.“We are reviewing this every month, nothing has changed,” she said.“If she [Pauline Hanson] wants to do that it’s entirely up to her.“By the time any action got to the High Court, I’m quite sure the borders will be open.”"

    So, before venting ,people should get some facts. Also, I fully understand your feelings about Australia before Victoria.

I read the other day somewhere, that Victoria stands to reap millions of $ in fines assuming that is all legal when the so called laws were passed. It still has to tested in a court of law yet.

    I don't give a flying **** if one state's conditions don't suit another let the C of A make the rules. This infighting **** is bloody ridiculous. Let us all "sing from the same hymn book or get aboard the same Tram or train" it doesn't matter at the end of the day FFS. This is all due to Oz being a Federation.

    Meantime, we will be self-isolating & spacing as we have been doing for months 'cos that is what we are content with or this Covid **** could just go on forever if every "Free Thinker" believes it wasn't meant for them. Well I have got ****ing news for you. It ****ing was, OK?

    Grouchy outburst finished.
    I'm afraid that regardless of your thoughts on the subject, we live in a federation. If you think the states ought to be abolished, or want to change the rights of the states vs the Commonwealth, it should take you about half an hour to read and understand the relevant section of the constitution. Could take a bit longer to get the constitution changed though - and the success rate of attempts to do so is not very impressive. (8/45 attempts unless I miscounted)

    When you understand that the majority of coronavirus cases in Qld. can be traced to the Ruby Princess, I don't think the closures were quick enough. And surely you realise that trade and essential travel has always been allowed.... Don't you ?

    It must have been a rush of blood, the rant does not survive close scrutiny. And besides, trade and essential travel has always been allowed thru the Qld border. Almost Trumpesque, wasn't it ?

    A couple of good reasons to keep the borders closed and monitered for a little longer.
