I think it will take some time to get to the point where we can work out if a trans tasman bubble is feasible or not. It seems that NZ has pretty much eradicated the virus (for now) which puts it in a pretty unique position. The problem now is keeping the virus out and whether the cost, both fiscal and human is worth the effort to remain virus free in a world that is most definitely not. A good illustration of this problem is the current South Australian case where an overseas visitor was given permission to travel to see a dying relative on compassionate grounds and after being in quarantine for a week tested positive when she arrived in Adelaide. She was then isolated and managed so there was little risk of infection but there are still calls to ban all compassionate exceptions. This is an example of the challenges that both countries would face in creating a "travel bubble".
