and yet the virus is still at the stage of semi controlled. Imagine what it would be like if it was not controlled by any lock down measures at all. The fear would become endemic and deeper and the feedback loop with the economy would become stronger and more uncontrolled. End up battling two contagions instead of just the one.

    thats where we're heading.
USA proves you're wrong - massive death toll and economic ruin.

The studies from the 1918 pandemic show that economies that locked down did better in both the short term and long term.

Edit: Oh, and Sweden - they've managed to achieve a death rate 100 times higher than Australia's, or their neighbours', and still took the same-sized hit to their economy as their neighbours.

Edit: And there's a suspicion that the reason Sweden have done so poorly is that they withheld ICU admissions from anyone over the age of 70.

With our **** weak border controls and the selfish/thoughtless behavior of many individuals it is only a matter of time before this **** show spreads to the other States.
I thought WA was completely locked down?

The NSW cluster apparently came from someone who legally travelled to Sydney for business and was completely symptomless at the time. The reason it then took off in NSW was because NSW has fewer restrictions in place than Victoria - there were hundreds of people in the pub he visited.

To reiterate - a very large percentage of infected people have no symptoms.

The latest case in WA is of VIC origin so NO WA obviously isn't "Completely" locked down But what we do have in place seems to be working MUCH better than anything that is in place in VIC, NSW and QLD.
The Sydney pub breakout is a perfect example of how NSW border restrictions are NOT working in their current form.

'I'm scared': Johns Hopkins expert says coronavirus is totally unprecedented.

Mustn't be true, according to this forum.
