Coronavirus: Why has Melbourne's outbreak worsened? - BBC News
We are talking about lockdown , and the news in Vic tells us that there is more people activity in the streets and shopping centers than the was in first lockdown , Imo people are using the rules to effect there daily wanderings and socializing to get out and about . Cut it any way you want the increase in the untraceable contamination of the virus is coming from somewhere, and people gatherings and lack of social distancing would in Imo seem like a logical answer . But there you go , as i have family there i just hope things improve soon .

The intentional money market is not my forte. I know China will benefit from all the PPE sales but aside from that if the developed world has spent about the same on keeping people safe and fed I don't see how our economy can suffer too much...

    Cheers

If you are caught doing that on a Minesite you would be on the next plane/Bus out of there Never to return.

If people keep this up doing stupid and selfish things instead of buckling down and taking this lock down seriously the numbers of infections will get worse and the lock down will be extended or even made more severe.
For Gods sake stop this foolishness and stay home you mob, I am certain that people and their dogs will survive a few weeks without walkies and takeaway coffee FFS.

I have an acquaintance in VicPol and he tells me in some streets he has patrolled recently ie last few days that apart from seeing more people with masks on there is still very little noticeable social distancing apart from areas where the crosses are marked on the ground.

He says he and other police officers are extremely frustrated with the general population who suggest they are being victimised and the police are being given orders to move people along and apart , instead of their general duties of law and order.

He thinks it may get worse to the point of complete lockdown in Victoria in very short order.

I feel for these guys having to be baby sitters to morons who just won't do the right thing.

Must be in a different part of Melbourne to where I live - everyone I see is wearing masks and keeping apart. Exactly where is your acquaintance patrolling?

Where the police have done themselves no favours is their random interpretations of the rules. As an example, in the first lockdown they booked a mother and daughter for walking along the beach in Middle Park. The police were wrong - it was specifically permitted to walk on the beach, what wasn't permitted was sitting/sunbathing on the beach. This time around they've been randomly and inconsistently harassing cyclists who are, as far as the cyclists can establish from DHHS, complying with the rules. Then there's the guy that got booked for fishing on the Bay - he'd travelled too far from home apparently - but if he was a member of, for example, the Royal Melbourne Golf Club he'd've been allowed to drive to Black Rock from anywhere in Melbourne. Then there was the woman who drove to Rye from the northern suburbs and got booked, but the police haven't booked anyone for going to their holiday homes in Rye even though that's specifically forbidden. Get the picture?

It's also increasingly clear that it's not the general population that's getting infected, but it is the general population that's copping the brunt of the lockdowns. I noticed another two cafes in my neighbourhood have closed and that means people have lost jobs and the owners will have lost everything invested in their business. Their banks will probably lose too.

To reiterate, it wasn't the average Melburnian that caused this outbreak - it was the government, who were warned about what might happen with the quarantine hotels. The government's incompetence has been compounded by the incompetence of the DHSS - contract tracing here appears to have ceased.

    A couple of points:-

    1. Infections detected today may have happened up to a fortnight ago. And today's behaviour will be reflected in cases one to two weeks from now. Actually this fortnight is likely to be longer, as it does not include the lag between when symptoms appear and when tests are sought and done or the lag for results - so some of the cases seen today may have actually been infected more than three weeks ago.

    2. Returned home from Yass today. Did some shopping before leaving, and stopped in a couple of places. I did not see any masks, but I did see everyone being careful about social distancing. Got some jam at a craft shop in Booroowa - plastic screens, social distancing and kept a log of all customers' name, phone and postcode.

A very salient point that the 'me, me, right now generation can't get their heads around. Can't think in terms of time frames, can't comment without thinking about political 'correctness' (which could be L or R) and how they're going to look on social media.

This problem can't be solved without very strong leadership, advised by science and demonstrated experience.

    cheers, DL

I would LOVE to answer this post in full But I would most likely be sanctioned and the post removed by the Mods.
