Obviously this newborn fiasco is front and centre of the news. According to channels 7 and 10, Lismore is a hotspot, that's why the parents were denied entry.
That being the case, I understand and support the decision. Whilst sympathising with the parents and appreciating this is an important time for the mother and babe to bond, it cannot take precedence over other peoples' lives.
If as you say Rick, there are no cases in the Lismore district, it's a tragic case of unyielding bureaucracy at work.
The RBWH has made special arrangements for the parents where they will be quarantined, within the hospital.

On a serious note, this is horrific - two of my kids were in NICU and the idea that I'd've been forced to wait 14 days to see them is unimaginable.

I'm sure that there must've been ways of transporting and isolating these parents so that they could be with their baby.

Edit: these hospitals admit actual infected people all the time, so surely they could cope with someone who only might be infected?

Yes but you banana benders also consider the ACT to be a hotspot and we are the jurisdiction that currently has gone the longest without any Covid. Maybe Qld should declare itself a hotspot.

Stopping the ACT residents at the Vic border was bizarre - how many people were they going to interact with on their way up the Highway?

Yes and when they did get to go (after it became news that pollies were exempt), they could only stop at Maccas at Gundagai - well with my prostate I would not have got that far.

Yep some pretty silly decisions all round in many State and Territory jurisdictions. Politics with upcoming elections, rather than sound medical advice seem to behind many decisions.

    When are you a Queenslander?

Apparently, when you've rented a property on the Gold Coast and purportedly driven a truck up from Melbourne:

Peter Fox: heir of billion dollar Linfox trucking empire able to move to Queensland from Melbourne despite border closure

Truckie escape: Linfox heir exempt from Queensland ban on Victorians

That truck-driver exemption is presumably for drivers taking loads across borders, not for people relocating away from a lockdown.

No mention of whether he or his family have been tested for coronavirus either.

Clearly, the young parents from Lismore with the baby in hospital should've driven to the hospital in a truck.

This might be an apt time to reiterate the adult behavior expected over all areas of the forum.

Actually Ian, I'm sure that's when SWMBO says I admit I was wrong.

Can't wait to see the lads dancing the hornpipe, reminds me of the days at sea, on the forecastle in the dog watch, having a fair old knees up. What fun it was deciding who would be the lassie, and who the lad. I guess with Divers leg, 4BEE would have to do the dancing. I'm shaking with anticipation, shivering with excitement. [ hope it's not the virus. there, back on topic]

Read there wasn't enough room on the Lismore-based rescue chopper for the parents, or they would have been flown directly to the Qld hospital with the baby.

I'm told by someone who knows, but can't talk, that two of the Sydney funeral cluster were a couple from Byron who came back, got sick, were in hospital at Lismore and are now in home iso recovering.

Some Tweed cases have been sent to Lismore in the past, although not currently, I think.

Qld health would know that, so that would be why that area was left outside the border zone.
