I think this is on topic,as its all caused by Covid.


Thankfully, the agriculture workers issue moving over the QLD/NSW border,and back, is almost sorted,but it still isn't the best.

The property next door has a crop of wheat worth in the vicinity of $40mil that needs harvesting shortly.
The owners have been worried for a while,why wouldn't they be?Its the best crop they have had for over 25yrs,the first for 3,due to the drought.
Couldn't even get to Moree for quite a while,as its over the border.That is the main place they get gear from.
Common sense also eventually sorted the issues around Mungindi,many had to go over the border for work,and children were at school over the border.There is only one policeman in the town,and to say he was busy is an understatement.
The recent fire in the town didn't help either.

Generally though,business in Brisbane,and probably most of Qld, is not good at all.I would think other areas of the country are probably worse,particularly Melbourne.
The knock on impact from no international and very few domestic tourists is huge.
People are worried about going out anywhere,doing anything,clubs,pubs,restaurants are at less than half capacity,which makes many not viable to open.New car sales down a long way,buses and train passengers way down,some routes over 90%.
Traffic everywhere is way down as well.Unemployment at record levels.
Code of conduct for commercial leasing ends the end of this month,many that have deferred interest on loans,rent,etc will have to start paying as well.Jobkeeper and Jobseeker gradually coming down and will eventually disappear.Other business stimulus packages have also been and gone.
Govt will be way,way down on revenue,as many,probably most businesses are not making money.Generally spending is down as well,so no doubt GST revenue will be way down as well.
Small business is the biggest employer in the country,they have been hit very,very hard.
Border closes haven't helped either.

So interesting times ahead.

Hope so. We have family in NSW we haven't seen for 3 months.

All in the same boat there - Haven't seen my Mum since March because of Covid - including her moving which I was supposed to help her with and a stint in Hospital she had. Hope to see her before Chrissy.

Just on the news this morning - restrictions have eased substantially in regional areas and stop people from Melbourne travelling to the regions and "Ring of Steel" has been setup around Melbourne. But all these checkpoints close if it rains as the police will not work in the rain - wtf.

So if you are in Melbourne and want to risk a breakout - wait until it rains

Cops used to be issued with Wet Weather gear here & probably all over OZ.



Are they breeding a New 'elf & Safety conscious crowd these days at The Police Kindergarten who are scared of getting a bit wet & having to stay in bed with a Hot Water bottle & regular Aspirin with a hot lemon drink & a Teddy Bear?

Maybe they don't like their new Toy Cars getting muddy.
What next, the Fire Services, the Ambulances & Ban Aircraft Flying 'cos the engines might flame out? Not likely, but one never knows who makes these decisions.

Maybe they need to supply each cop with a Blue & White checkerboard Golf Brolly?

Not here,years ago,before speed cameras,most knew they could speed in wet weather,and get away with it.

Did you ever see a cop sitting on the side of the road with a speed gun,or at one of those box radar things in the rain?

Nah,never.The general consensus in those days was they were scared of the rain

They probably had wet weather gear but only used it if they had to

So why didn't the ACT check the bonafides of the NSW traveller? You have to be kidding to say that States don't have to check the bonafides of passengers boarding aircraft, and if those passengers have boarded with falsified documents, and been allowed to fly , how on earth can the receiving jurisdiction be responsible . Quick answer to the problem, declare the ACT a hot spot until the airport administration get their act together. Then declare NSW a hot spot until they get their act together and have 2 14 day COVID free periods. Also to claim that Service men & Women returning from overseas , and testing positive, that because their NOK or other details say they are Queenslanders, to claim Qlders took the virus to the ACT, is laughable. Besides, the first ADF members with the virus in the ACT came from Sydney.

In early March, the ADF confirmed two members had contracted the virus, adding that one of those people had visited defence headquarters in Canberra on 28 February.
Following the diagnoses, the ACT government urged all passengers who travelled on two flights between Sydney and Canberra on 28 February to contact their local health authorities.

We dont have irrational border restrictions so no checking. If Qld has rules of entry then it is up to Qld to enforce them not expect others to do their work for them.

We have never had border restrictions, not have police powers to issue fines to the residents (businesses yes) , had minimal restrictions (mainly social distancing), one of the best tracking systems and has one of the lowest death and infection rates in Australia - all without the drama of other jurisdictions.

It would seem the drama queens rain supreme in most states and territories - seems ironic as the ACT is the only jurisdiction with a queen as a leader but none of the drama.

Like a lot of things being reported, that is a load of bollocks. They can and do work in the rain. Also, the checkpoints have a series of marquees along them for rain and wind protection.

How zealous an Officer would be with the paperwork checks after standing in the rain or close to it for 8 hours is another thing - guess they’ll find out over the weekend as it’s supposed to **** down.
