My brother lives in Newcastle but works as a facilities manager at HMAS Kuttabul and Garden Island, as well as other Navy assets around Sydney. He commutes down and back by road each day.
Earlier last week two people he had contact with in Garden Island came down with Covid (they live on the North Shore) and are in hospital. My brother was told to stay home on Friday and to get a Covid test which he did on Friday morning - he stayed at home but did not isolate from his wife and son living in the same house - too hard in that house. Result came back yesterday all clear so all good.
HOWEVER, he gets a message from NSW Health this morning that someone who actually visited him on Thursday afternoon in his office has now been diagnosed with COVID and NSW Health will get back to him - so while he is cleared from the earlier outbreak he could be infected from his interaction on Thursday and it would have been too soon to be picked up by his Friday test. So he is expecting to have to get another test when advised by NSW Health and to have to go into isolation while waiting for future test results.
The issue I have is that my 93 yo Mum lives nearby and is always having problems with her phone and on late Friday, not knowing all of the above, I sent my sister in law around to my Mums to fix her phone. So if my brother did pick up Covid on Thurs there is a chance my brother could have passed it to my Mum via his wife.
Unlikely given incubation times but still a concern. It just highlights how easily transmission over distances does occur.
