"COVID paranoia Australia is consumed by a COVID paranoia. I spent five months stuck there from April, unable to return to my wife in the US. I spent a month in self-isolation in two states. I had to apply to government departments to cross borders and then eventually leave the country. Victoria is the ultimate surreal nightmare of all things un-Australian. I finally managed to fly out of Perth last Sunday. Once I landed in Dallas I was passed through immigration by a friendly official, then I flew on to Santa Fe, where I wasn’t required to quarantine. Walking free, I was picked up by my wife and the months of Australian madness, thankfully, began to evaporate.

Unlikely though. Even playing the odds he has a good chance of not suffering any noticeable ill effects from it.

Poor old Glad, she seems to be in the **** a bit lately & I used to think she was a Wonderwoman Wannabee.

Nope, she is a human like most of us, (if you get my drift) with all it's foibles & weaknesses.

The case has again drawn attention to the relaxed rules for aircrews arriving in Australia, as officials acknowledged he was not required to undergo testing for coronavirus at any stage of his journey.
Under the special health provisions extended to Australian flight crew workers, the man was allowed to leave the overseas flight, use a private car to go to a regular, non-quarantine hotel in Darwin, where he spent one night before flying on the QF841 Darwin to Sydney service on 18 December.

And if I don't miss my guess I reckon this Laxness has kept this bloody awful thing going.

Seems an obvious method of entry to Aus. & amazed that they didn't have this base covered from the off.

Paris of all places, where it is apparently rife.

I suppose no one will know (read, say) who authorised this cockup?

It is not just their health that they are playing Russian Roulette with, but all Australians.

The positive to take out of this is each breach has tightened up the system. We have to hope that no one is infected thru a breach, and the system will eventually be COVID tight. But, it's like playing Russian roulette. Now in the UK there are reports that the new variant is suspected of infecting children easier than the original. Scientists are investigating, and a report is expected soon.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

My Point bob is that they should have foreseen this but like VIC. they all thought someone else was going to do it & then no-one did .. Quarantine, as you know, is not a new thing from late 2019.

Quarantine means just that, or should, but not in OZ it appears. The old "She'll be roight mate I knew your grandfather's plumber's, son. Through you go. Merry Xmas. Next"

    Not good enough.

Another COVID variant has been detected which appears to be more contagious than a mutated version of the virus that forced the cancellation of Christmas in the UK.
British health secretary Matt Hancock said two cases of a new strain originally identified in South Africa had been picked up in the UK.
The variant has raised fresh concerns as the UK expanded its toughest Tier four restrictions to include more regions.
“This new variant is highly concerning because it is yet more transmissible and it appears to have mutated further than the new variant that has been discovered in the UK,” Mr Hancock said

Australia has detected four cases of the variant – two each in NSW and Victoria, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) confirmed in a statement.
” All cases have been or are being managed in hotel quarantine and the variant has not spread into the community.

The Australian Medical Association has called on the NSW government to cancel Sydney’s iconic fireworks display.
“The NSW government should consider cancelling the New Year’s Eve fireworks display to discourage crowds and avoid any confusion in its public messaging,” federal AMA president Omar Khorshid said in a statement on Wednesday.

A second variant from Sth.Africa , more infectious than the mutation that closed down London, makes me think flying people back home could be a lost cause. We should consider no flights into this country until the virus is under control in the UK, at the very least. If necessary, Government should consider a "pandemic allowance " to allow Aus. citizens overseas who are in difficulty be able to ride this out. The time for pussy footing around is over.

Bloody hell! As Jim Hacker said to Humpy. "Hold on, who do you agree with?" H. You Prime Minister. I don't know how I can make it any clearer( pause 2-3) I agree with you Prime Minister. Waits while Jim nearly falls off his chair.

You have it in a nutshell bob, so if two olde worlde numpties (no offence Numpty) can see it, why can't over paid "Advisers" cotton on? Even a little, or are they ignoring advice Trump like, & hope it will all go away by xmas by burying their skulls in the Nevada Desert?

I'll wear Numpty with pride, right under the olde fart badge. I think part of the problem is this is [ wait for it] UNPRECEDENTED. Strip away the Politics, strip away the tribalism, take out the vested interests, kick the clowns who don't take this seriously right where it hurts, and go back to square one. How do we properly protect Australia and it's citizens ? This is not going away. And if it means we have to accept a lower standard of living for a while to achieve that, so be it.
