Too late. Have been on Vit D3 / K2 supplementation for years. Haven't had a cold or flu for.... Years. My Serum level is always on high side of the Bell CurveWhy test ?- Because individual D - level is not tied to dose, we're all very different in how we absorb or generate it.
(K2 "re-directs" calcium into bones, not arteries)
"Deficient" is regarded as <30nmol/L, 50 and you're looking Good, 70 and beyond is Jolly Useful and to be desired. Over 120 and you'll rarely get any 'flu.
The Yanks use a funnier measurement, ng/mL, in which you want at least 30 to feel safe. 70 is great !
Dose advice ranges from 2,000 IU to 10,000IU. Dr Tony FAUCI admits to taking 6,000IU. - He does not have covid (That we know of...) but then again, he appears to be in excellent health - for any age above 50. I think he's 80 - something.
IF you take a Statin, then pills/Cod Liver Oil supplements are useful, as low cholesterol = lower sun-generated Vit D.
How useful ? - higher initial Vit D correlates with milder symptoms / no infection than 'Deficient' numbers. - I'll take every advantage I can get, at my vintage ! Some treatment protocols use high doses of D, 10,000 or more.
Gosh, the things we find on a 4WD forum !

[QUOTE=superquag;3079796]Some news for those who have had or reckon they're gunna get the 'rona.
- Having a (natural) dose of Wuhan DOES give you a long(er)-lasting resistance to getting it again, despite what the 'Jab-is-best-ONLY' brigade have been rabbiting on [QUOTE]
Besides the fact it's called Corona virus or covid19, not Wuhan which is just stupid, getting Corona will give you a risk of DEATH, which is certainly a longer lasting resistance. If you don't die it will then give you ongoing issues that can continue for the rest of your life, such as organ failures and more.
There's no proof that vitamin D has an effect from multiple clinical studies and ones that did claim it have taken them down if they are reputable. It's not that it isn't good to have vitamin D as a supplement, it's just doesn't have proven efficacy even after huge studies.
It is amazing what you learn on land Rover forums, and one of them is not to believe everything you read on a land Rover forum
The Maharastra double mutant found in the b.1. 617 Variant, of India.
From the Indian Express.
"What is the B.1.617?
The B.1.617 variant of SARS-CoV-2 carries two mutations, E484Q and L452R. Both are separately found in many other coronavirus variants, but they have been reported together for the first time in India.
The two mutations are found in the virus’s spike protein. The spike protein helps the virus to bind itself to the human cell’s receptors and gain entry into a host cell.
The E484Q mutation is similar to E484K, a mutation found in the United Kingdom (lineage B.1.1.7) and South Africa (B.1.351) variants of the coronavirus.
The L452R mutation has been found in fast spreading variants in California (B.1.427 and B.1.429). It can increase the binding power of spike proteins with ACE2 receptors on human cells, making it more transmissible. L452R can also potentially enhance viral replication.
Together, E484Q and L452R are more infectious, and can evade antibodies."
Clinicians and district administrators in Maharashtra are reporting that unlike in the first wave, entire families are getting infected in the second wave. This could indicate either that physical distancing and isolation measures are inadequate in the household, or that the virus has become more transmissible
“We know that the South African variant is more capable of escaping immune response. We know that UK variant is the most transmissible. But we know nothing about B.1.617 so far, because we are not putting together data to draw conclusions,” Dr Kang said.
Dr Menon underlined that while vaccines are not expected to prevent infection, they certainly prevent severe disease and death. “We expect that this will remain true even with the new variant. The only medium- to long-term solution to deal with Covid-19 is for people to get vaccinated.”

Now a triple mutant variant has been found in b.1.617. The " Bengal strain ".;From the Financial Express, India;
- ": This mutant has been dominant in all surge states such as Maharashtra, Delhi and Chhattisgarh. Now, the scientists say that the virus has mutated further and has three types of mutations – hence the name triple mutant. It is scientifically known as B.1.618.
- 4: Vinod Scaria, a scientist working at the New Delhi-based Institute of Genomic and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGI
, took to Twitter on April 20 to talk about the triple mutant, which is now being called the ‘Bengal strain’ of the coronavirus. In his Twitter thread, Scaria said that the ‘sequence’ of the mutant’s lineage were found mainly in West Bengal. While more research is being done to understand the link between the discovery of the triple mutant and the new surge in viral infections, the main point is that this mutant is not only highly transmissible, it may also escape any sort of immune barrier."
