Yes - biggest issue now is working out where the hell it came from - it's different to what was in Vic before today so will it show up in numbers somewhere else? Hope not, we're already locked down, so if we can keep it to that around the country I'd be happy.

    Take care out there.

Yes yes yes, I realise Jervis Bay is in NSW so no need to have a pop at me.
Here's an article from the UK, where the 'Delta ' variant has become the dominant infection, and what they know about it. 73% of cases are in unvaccinated people, and only 3,7 % of delta cases are in people with 2 jabs, and only 5% of people in hospital have had both jabs. As they say, life's a lottery.

What we know about the Delta variant. A more transmissible variant can burn thru an immunologically naive population very fast. Increased transmissibility is an exponential threat. If a virus that can infect 3 people can now infect 4, it looks like a small increase. Yet if you start with just 2 in each case, just 10 iterations later, the former will have caused about 40,000 cases, the latter 524,000. I think Victoria has done a superlative job keeping the rest of us safe, Des. So far.

So where has this 'Delta' variant come from? Is not related to the current breakout. So did not originate from the SA stuff up.

No stress on hype about Names- If it bleeds we can kill it

We are keeping the numbers contained and the media frenzy on Alpha Beta,,,,,,, is just the same again adding their own confusion on the reclassification naming protocols

If offending India doesn't phase you, call it by its original name, the Indian variant.

That's the worry. There is no link ATM to the other cases in Melbourne. I think they call it a mystery case. They are working flat out to find the link . EDIt. The other Melbourne cases are the Indian" Kappa" variant, the Delta variant is a mutation of Kappa and the original Indian virus. According to the Hindustan Times. Also the Delta variant is in the UK, and may keep them in lockdown for longer.

No its not - the outbreak that originated from Adelaide is the Indian Capa variant and that is what has been circulating - today they have detected the Indian Delta variant - it hasn't mutated here from the Capa form - it must have been brought in - so an other separate source.

A new stuff up of the virus escaping from Melbourne quarantine? A person who has been quarantine and showed no infection and subsequently got it after the 14 days - who knows but this is a separate infection. When full diognostics are done the answer might become clear - this is not a media fake news item - is a serious development.
