No, I've been told if I book online for a mass vax centre then AZ is all I will be offered. The application with medical evidence to receive an alternative to AZ can take up to 2 weeks to process according to the response I have received after applying.

I don't know, it must have to go to cabinet for approval or something

I booked my Pfizer jab the day I became eligible (to under 50s). I have it tomorrow at the mass vac centre in Bunbury.

….so now, aged between 40-60 you can’t have AZ (unless you’ve already had first dose - bad luck) but under 40 you can have AZ? …no mention of blood clot stats under 40! …So the PM is giving medical advice now? for under 40’s because National cabinet told him to get on with it!

…but the actual medical advice for AZ is that it’s only safe for over 60’s …and AZ is being phased out altogether because it’s dangerous based on expert medical advice, and because more mRNA vaccines are (maybe) coming from OS sometime this year.

But despite AZ being phased out for expert medical reasons, if you’re under 40, or you’ve had your first AZ, or you’re over 60 you should get AZ anyway. …What the ?!?!??

has there actually been supply issues? has anyone had an appointment canceled because there were none left? on abc news tonight someone was talking about 2.7million in stock

It'll be interesting to see the final numbers after all plausible incubation period is up. Party on 19 June, two weeks is up 3 July. If we allow another week for a 21 day period as is being implemented in some places overseas, this would be definitive. If this tally still stands after that it'll be a poster child for vaccination. It'd be good to know the vaccines they were served with.

Hmm, every other news outlet (and state govts of both colours) has been reporting that it's been organisational/distribution issues, but News Ltd is the RT or Global Times of Australia.

While the organisation of vaccination has been less than stellar (especially if you don't live in a major city), and there are significant screwups in not making provision for some workers and some groups to actually be able to get the vaccine, the fundamental problem has been a shortage of doses. There has also been disputes over whether doses should be kept ready for second doses when the first is given or to assume that a second dose will be available when needed.

The Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine has been and remains in short supply, as it is only produced in a few limited sites worldwide, and most supplies have been allocated ahead of Australia. Until recently the same applied to A-Z, but apparently the first production batch of A-Z from the Australian producer has now been approved (the TGA has to approve each batch)meaning that there is no shortage of this now.

Other problems have included a reluctance by many GPs to administer the vaccines because they are not sure whether their insurer will cover them.

From what I have seen the vaccine reluctance has been grossly overstated and sensationalised - nearly everyone has been trying to get vaccinated, but the few who don't have managed to get a lot of coverage.
