Get your facts right boys. They've now lowered the age limit to 40 and over for AZ if you want it. Below 40 is still only Pfizer. 40-59 yrs can have AZ or Pfizer with Pfizer being the preferred option. 60 and over is AZ only.
You can thank the current outbreak for the break in apathy and the sudden rush on vaccine demand. Up until now many people have been lazy about it and happy to let someone else step in front of them after listening to the brain dead, myopic rumour mill that is social media which passes itself off as a source of news, beating up big on the dangers of vaccination.
Cheers,
Sean

Was just listening to the news and it said under 40’s can request AZ now but it didn’t really say if someone like myself (51) can request AZ as I’m on a long waiting list for Pfizer at the moment unable to get AZ.
To say it’s confusing is an understatement and why I’ve been unable to get a vax of any description so far peeves me off no end. It’s been a complete and utter farce.

Data from NSW's Covid-19 weekly surveillance report showed just one of the first 8 cases in the Bondi cluster had received a single dose of vaccine, the remaining 7 had not been vaccinated at all. There is frustration growing in the NSW government over the ability to vaccinate with the Pfizer vaccine, because only 140 GP's are signed up to deliver the vaccine.

You are right Gav. Apologies to Mick and SpudheadTed.
The way I heard it on ABC this morning was wrong. I decided to go to the source and read the PMs statement:
Virtual Press Conference | Prime Minister of AustraliaNow, a final thing noted tonight by the National Cabinet was the Federal Government to support also the mandatory vaccination not just those of aged care workers, but more broadly to support the vaccination of, of people across Australia, we will be implementing a new no fault indemnity scheme for general practitioners who administer COVID-19 vaccines. So this relates to encouraging Australians to go and chat to their GP about their vaccination and to have their vaccination administered. Now, the ATAGI advice talks about a preference for AstraZeneca to be available and made available to those as preferred for those over 60. But the advice does not preclude persons under 60 from getting the AstraZeneca vaccine. And so if you wish to get the AstraZeneca vaccine, then we would encourage you to a, go and have that discussion with your GP and we've already made announcements to support those additional consultations with the GPs so you can have that conversation. And secondly, we are also providing the indemnity scheme for those general practitioners so they can actively engage with you and you can make the best decision for your health.
Cheers,
Sean

Correct. Anyone under 40 can now get AZ. Infact today, the ABC news announced that now ALL adults can get AZ!! Despite it being phased out!!Originally Posted by Homestar;[URL="tel:3092542"
Im 51 too and did the right thing, followed the advice, had my first AZ, but then a week later 50-59’s were told to only have Pfizer. But now because I had first AZ I’m not eligible for Pfizer! I have to get second AZ!!

Not surprised you’re confused SBD4, most are!
AZ medical advice has just gone out the window - According to ABC News this morning, ALL adults are now able to get AZ vaccine, if you trust the ‘health advice’...

I’m happy to get AZ and will be heading in as soon as I can to get mine. Due to illness I had to cancel my original appointment then the rules changed. Hopefully a mass vax centre can sort me with a jab this week now instead of waiting another month plus for Pfizer.
All my relatives in England (dozens of them) have had AZ as has my brother and Mum so I’m not concerned at all about having that instead of Phizer

Homestar I’d wait for Pfizer if I were you… you’ll be fully vaccinated with the best vaccine a month earlier than with AZ, due to 3 weeks between doses for Pfizer, compared with 3 months between doses for AZ.Originally Posted by Homestar;[URL="tel:3092547"
After it was announced Pfizer was being made available to the 40 to 50 age group, my son went down to the hub to register and / or get the jab. They put pressure on him to get the AZ, and virtually indicated they would not vaccinate him with Pfizer, but he demanded Pfizer, and so they put him on " the list". That was last week, still waiting on the E-mail, text, phone call, or pony express rider as to a jab date. The natural conclusion? they do not have the Pfizer available. As for Health professionals , aged care residents and staff, up here the aged care system didn't have enough doses to vaccinate residents wirh both doses, and staff, so staff had to use what was left over after the residents were fully vaccinated. It was not a matter of vaccine hesitancy, but a matter of supply. Advice from my GP is you could always request AZ, but GP's wanted confidence they would not be subject to legal action if the dose had an adverse effect. that advice has not been forthcoming from the Federal Government , according to her. A complete and utter farce? The following article is over 2 months old. Patients are still confused.
