Lock down lifted after 4 pm. Then we hold our breath & wait, I guess. Cairns & Yarrabah are a worry ATM. Cairns feels like my second home, spent a bit of time there in refit when on patrol boats in Darwin. Went to Yarrabah back then [ 80's] and it was fairly primitive then, but I believe it has changed a lot. a largely unvaccinated aboriginal community , qld health's worst nightmare, I believe.

That's behind the current numbers. This is a better place to check the current stats, it's updated regularly:

As of yesterday it's showing 22% fully vaccinated and 43% partially vaccinated. It also shows a breakdown by state. You can toggle the graphs between number or percentage of people vaccinated.

Open shut them Open shut them- We are over lock downs/ restrictions and masks yet? A little song turned up as sensible

Austin Texas- not shut and not allowed to make people were masks.

"More than 100 new Covid patients were admitted that day, he said, and intensive care units were near capacity, with Covid patients occupying more than 180 I.C.U. beds and 102 of those patients on ventilators.“We are in the single digits of I.C.U. beds available,” Mr. Bencivengo said, adding that patients in emergency rooms were being forced to wait for space in the I.C.U.s to open up."

EDIT Mia Culpa about 10,000"Coronavirus crisis: Health Minister Greg Hunt has confirmed Moderna to be available within weeks" Good news I think. No idea what I need to do now. As usual I expect it to be a lot of work for me

Canbera Times has "Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt expects the first million doses of the mRNA Moderna vaccine will arrive in Australia in September, subject to final approval by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

That approval is expected within the next two weeks but early signs are that is it is highly effective, he says.

Once approved, supplies are expected to increase to three million a month through October, November and December.

This comes on top of the effective doubling of Pfizer vaccines to two million a week."

The Brisbane Cit Council are doing kerbside collections in our area from Monday so people have been putting stuff out on the footparth all week & since Friday there have been people driving around going through the stuff taking all the scrap metal . I would have thought the police would be out & about warning these people for braking lockdown rules . There has not been as many as usual but in my mind there should not be any at all.

Slight clarification - it's 43% either fully or partially vaccinated: so 43% in total, not 65% (unfortunately).

Not a habit of mine, grog got me into enough trouble. None of us partook in any of that back in the day, [ we'd know] some Americans embraced the habit, I'm glad I didn't go to sea with them.Dangerous to themselves and everyone else. [ We always knew when to go to the huge store houses in Subic Bay, one of the boys would give you the nod, " the keeper of the stores is on the hooch, ", go along with anything aussie, badges etc, and he'd give you the store. ' COOL MAN, take what you need. ' Our cunning kick stores [ off the PL 'permanent list' and not accountable ] down in the tiller flat were the envy of the squadron.

Another story about the generosity of our American allies, when the Brisbane came back from England after the jubilee, we had to do a full power trial before refit. Now we'd been away for about 6 months and the deal was no leave until the full power trial was done. Trouble is, each of our boiler main stops were sealed with a silver ring, [ pure silver coated on a metal ring.] Worth a kings ransom, the 1B boiler in No 1 fire room had a leaky main stop joint and there were none in Australia. Could have got one in a hurry in about a week from Hawaii.

The grizzled old Chief 'Tiffie said " no worries, go over to that yankee DDG on the other side of the wharf and invite the Chief Machinest Mate over for lunch [ we had a wet mess.] I escorted the legless CMM back to his ship, he handed me a silver ring I went back and put it in. Job done. The advantage of a wet mess. What happened during the full power trial is another story, worth telling at another time.

Yes, thanks for the clarification, that's what I meant.

Here is the summary of the Qld restrictions from 4pm today.
Highlights include masks basically everywhere, 4 sq.m. per person or 50% in ticketed venues.
Great to see a short sharp lockdown suppress Delta in 8 days. Hope Cairns only has 3 days.
