I have a TV in my bedroom, connected to the internet, no TV aerial point but I even have apps fir thr free to air TV channels I can watch on it. It's very cool!
Also can put YouTube on there
I understand the language, and have had Netflix, Stan and prime before. But, ever since the Disneys and Foxes of the world say what Netflix was making with THEIR content they decided to bring it all back in house, so now we are nearly back to the Foxtel model, where each content is another $15 pm.

The problem with this brave new world of streaming services is that some, including myself, have very restricted data allowances (NBN Skymuster satellite) that make using them impractical, and no feasible way of getting adequate data.

Thats definitely the not so good bit and how it used to be for me too. We can get 500gb mobile broadband here now thankfully. (Even though o never understand the data limits for mobile or satellite when they are all unlimited amounts for those able to get cable broadband

No mobile here and if you could get it, as I almost certainly could with an outside antenna, there is only Telstra and their costs are pretty high for a worthwhile amount.

I have issues when my grandchildren are here, and one of them is reluctant to visit me because of the internet limitations. At home they have unlimited, and regularly use over a Terabyte a month.

The readon for data limits is that there is a limited amount of the electromagnetic spectrum usable for this sort of communication, and it is shared by everyone in range, so there is a maximum volume of data that can pass through this channel at one time. Of course, the same sort of restiction applies to cable, fibre or wires, but the fundamental difference is that for these means of communication, you can have multiple wires, cables, fibres right next to each other, and they can all operate independently of each other. Plus fibre is able to carry data at a vastly greater rate than any other medium.

So data caps are used, as a very blunt instrument to curb heavy users - the alternative is to reduce speeds when there is a lot of demand, but the problem with this is that it affects (i.e. really upsets) everyone, not just the heavy users.

Well, as I predicted, give them a couple of days & someone will be on the blower asking why we gave them the chop?

No idea who she was but with all the crappy sounds going on in the background it could have been Joan of Arc for all I knew.

She started straight in, WHY? I passed the phone over to her indoors to deal with that as she was the one that inititially raised it so she let her have it while staying calm. ie. Line Manager didn't wish to own the problem etc, etc etc. & they kept coming up with same reply, Nix.

She was wasting both their times as we had got used to the Free to Air again & had explored our other SMART TV features in the meantime, so still decided to give them the brushoff & save $400 per annum.

I think we will get another call from Foxtel but the answer will be the same. "Bugger off, you didn't wish to know us when we raised this matter, so Oorroo."

This on the day that 'er indoors returned the DigiBox to them by Aust Post (they are paying the Postage) & ensured she got a receipt.

Foxtel claim that they would look into it but It won't help us but maybe someone else, but I believe we won't hear about that.

    **** you Rupert!
