The Jag's only a dream Dave, preference would be an XK 120 DHC, but I'd be happy with any, old cat.
Great thread recollection, retrieval and revival Steve.![]()

You are excused Ian; I have just read your post of 5Feb2009.
The country cannot afford the temporary retirement of truckies.
These are not my cars but my dads , a couple were handed down to me or bought by me.
38line2 oldsmobile factory.jpg Father had two of these AU built Oldsmobile's , made one good one out of the two & then sold the other.
1933-studebaker-commander-sedan-excellent-restoration-2 stedubaker.jpg This Studebaker was in tray back Ute form & was used when he started his welding business until it was eventually put off the road. maxresdefault 56 customline.jpg His had darker blue , I loved that car . img-lrg-dodge-kingsway-coronet-56 dodge.jpg The Dodge Kingsway was grey , built like a brick dunny wolseley.jpg The Wolseley 24/80 was black with leather interior , he would Simonize it twice a year , It was a very under rated lovely car
Ford_Fairmont_XT_Sedan xt fairmont.jpg His XT Fairmont was silver 1970-ford-zd-fairlane-351-k-code-sedan fairlane.jpg This Fairlane correct colour was a great car to drive , used it to tow a large caravan & a boat.
series-3-green-landrover-front-corner-lg Land Rover s3.jpg The S3 was bought new with a canvas tilt to go fishing up at Fraser Island he later fitted the hard top , a second fuel tank & 8" wheels. 1995-Land Rover-Range Rover-Import Classics--Car-100758249-3a1f0e9ca2cf4253457f93415c0e1d6e rang.jpg The RR was bought as a duel purpose vehicle to as every day vehicle & to go fishing
1920px-1984_Ford_Telstar_2.0_Ghia_(8144009276) ford telstar.jpg The white Telstar was bought after he had a stroke & found it difficult to drive the RR manual. The RR was given to my brother & my self to share & i would take him up to Double Island Point & Fraser when he thought the fishing was good. Unfortunately the Telstar was the last vehicle he bought , he died from a blood clot that went to his hart 1 year to the day that he had the stroke.
Sorry to hear about your Dad.
Was the Customline a four door or two door (Tudor)? I didn't think the Tudors came to Australia.

Known in the UK as the thrupenny bit, as that coin was milti-flat sided. Originally designed by BMC and marketed by Austin and Morris.

This is a brilliant thread!! So manycars. My dad has a few here (triumph sedan and stag, rovers!)
I picked the wrong photo trying to find the paint colour .it was a 4 door. I think you are correct in that no 2 doors came to AU
And encase someone dose not know what an Island Cab Truck is 10345105 island cab.jpg you sat in the middle of the truck with the tray extending down either side. Quite good to drive you could see all 4 corners , could get that truck in anywhere
First car i bought was a '67 XR falcon wagon. Spent a fortune on this PORubbish... even changed the engine from 170 to 200 cu inches. Don't ask why !!! Ran Olympic Air ride tyres, as you did in those days... miracle I'm still here.
Traded wagon for a '67 Toyota Crown sedan. - 2.3 smooooth 6 cyl SOHC Engine just re-built by country dealer.
3 on the tree plus overdrive. Gorgeous car all round, and yes, I had those convex front fender mirrors. - fantastic in Melbourne / Sydney traffic. Handled great on the unleased Nullabor, managed over the Ton between the infrequent fuel stops. Overall use was 26 MPG for that trip, Perth - Noosa - Sydney -Melbourne-Perth.
Crown was 'Desert Beige' like the pic. Acrylic, polished up a treat. Schmick-looking dark red bench seats which were the equal of the Classic on a long run. Good enough to do the E/ West run...non-stop. 28 hours average. On the unsealed section, could pull away from ANYTHING. Best speed on the limestone gravel was 85 to 90 MPH - 135 m/h to 145km/h.
Ton-up was possible but fuel use went up to around 20 MPG, - you can work out the metric !
No prizes for guessing my favourite chariot. !
Should never have sold it.
In a moment of madness, next was a HX (runout) 4.2 V8. Most abominable driver's bucket seat ever invented. Even the bench-seat version was superior ! Got rid of it after one Perth - Melbourne trip. Gas guzzler and relatively gutless, despite progressively removing anti pollution garbage and trying a Holley 350 carb.
But putting on the HZ sway bars and re-setting wheel alignment turned it into a slalom -killer. Fantastic road holding at any speed.
Next was the 1974 VW Passat. Not bad seats, safe and predictable handling despite being FWD. 33 MPG everywhere at any speed. Personally re-built the engine at around 300K after killing it on the Nullabor, 160 km/h all day on a 50+C, .. - Did another 300K on re-built engine. Vinyl trim was cheap and fell apart in our sun.
The CROWN wing mirrors were transplanted for that West-east trip.
CM Valiant 245 auto. What can I say ? Rust under the windscreen, an A/C big enough to be painful...on a day the roads were melting. Bought it to go East... Glad fuel was cheap then ! Unsafe over 80km/h on anything worse than a glass smooth freeway. Still, we survived unscathed. Taught me (gentle) Left Foot Braking for cornering around town. Amazing improvement in getting around bends ! Comfortable yet frightening on a country run....
Modern stuff after that. Imported Mazda "Capella" factory LPG (626) for us. Great car, over 500K without missing a beat and still going strong with NO oil leaks or smoke...when sone wrote it off.
Maxda Bongo 4WD turbo diesel. Great family flyer. Decent wheels and tyres made a difference on beaches. Engine died by poor maintenence incident....
Mitsi Pajero 1989. turbo diesel. RELIABLE and frugal for it's size / weight / leadfoot. Another son eventually killed it, but by then it owed me less than Nothing. Better car to drive around town than the 95 Classic. sorry, just true.
Then the 1995 Classic, Lady Sarah. Should have spent LOTS more $$$ on her, but couldn't get past the BW transfer case idea. Or the disappointing engine power/thirst. Gone to a happy home.We all know what a white Mazda 626 looks like (boring & bland & reliable) or a dark 95 Classic. Or white Chrysler CM. But all the colours below are correct.
Today, an old auto Camry pinched off another son is my daily driver, great all round and reliable...apart from the driver's door lock switch. And the cruddy clear coat.
